I now know why this fly is so popular.
It gets VERY large fish.
Kuddos to it's originator
Hook:Size 10 3xlong with off set eye
Bead: small smooth taper cone head
thread 6.0 brown or black
Lead wire: securing the bead and wound almost to bend of hook.
tail: Black marabou over top of a few strands of metalic flash, with a two inch section of copper wire to bind later.
Body: small black chenille wound from bend of hook and secured toward eye
purple hackle: wound down from eye of hook then secured with copper wire palmering up to eye of hook and finally securing with a few wraps, and a couple whip finishes.
The off set eye helps to keep the bugger's tail up while fishing. combine that with the cone head action, it really has a very life like presence. I like to make the tail fairly long because it definitely helps the action of the fly in the water.
When I fish my bugger I like to use no weight This fly is nice and heavy with the cone head and lead. I'll usually run a dropper PT between sizes 16-20 about 18 inches behind the bugger.
I try and dead drift the bugger towards the tail ends of pool, then sweep the fly up and across the current. This is my favorite thing about buggers is that super strike on these returning strips.
Hope every one enjoys.
