I guess because I lived in the area for so long I always fished, at least inshore, around the Mosquito Lagoon area on the East Coast. However, that has now changed! :)
I just returned from the Fort Meyers area and had the wonderful opportunity to fly fish with Scott Swartz a couple of mornings. Within hours we were fishing for tarpoon, redfish, and snook. Lightning storms and tides were an issue the first morning, but I had an absolutely fabulous time.
There is a ton of water, bays, islands..... and the fishery is just awesome.
Scott is a first rate host, guide, and an excellent instructor with the long rod. He also has a K A boat to boot.
As for the vacation, my wife, daughter, and I had the chance to really relax.
If you are in the area be sure and call Scott if you are in the area.
Thanks Scott if you see this

Jeff, it was good to have a Georgia boy, NGTO'er and former student here to fish with. The day after you left we tarpon fished again and got two on the fly and one on a plug. I can't wait to go throw a fly where you saw the 30 and 40 inch snook getting pulled out by the ramp where I picked you up. Get back down August thru fall and we will chase some of the schooling reds I told you about.

That sounds like a great time. I'm new to the salt water fly fishing and absolutely love it. Scott, do you have a website or email in case I'm ever in the area?
Thanks.

I mention this hoping someone, maybe anyone will be amused as I was.
On our last evening there we were traveling I believe on San Carlos Blvd which becomes Estero Blvd and runs along the gulf on Fort Meyers beach. It is four lanes and a main artery through the area. Anyhow, it was just before dusk and a car ahead is stopped in the left lane and a young female is bent over with a large box in the right lane. As we approached closer my daughter shouted " oh my goodness, look how large that snake is. " As we slowed and drove a few feet further we realized what we were actually looking at was an alligator tail, attached to an alligator maybe 6-7 feet. Unbelievably this 17 - 18 year old girl was attempting to shoo the alligator with a box off the road. I thought for a minute and said to myself " I dont know anything about handling alligators, like where to grab them ect, just something I somehow managed to miss over the years, thank god" when thankfully:rolleyes: two young men jumped out of the car behind us and went over to the girl's aid. I say to myself again, what a woman.....lol. As we continued to drive on by I did notice both the young men jumping and jerking their arms back, I think maybe the girl had a better idea with the box;) Oh, as on most of the roads around there, a canal ran right along the road.
And Scott, the snook on the dock is a whole other lengthy post,,, unbelievable.

I love that name of Bows2Bones...do it all fly fishing! We have a website but it is not yet created www.floridaflyfishingschool.com After creating and running Atlanta Fly Fishing School www.atlantaflyfishingschool.com for 7 years it seemed the site to start with. Most of our business is word of mouth so I have been slack about getting it up and running...(only three years and counting) If you want to see some of Florida's best coast outside of the Keys or Everglades you can reach me at capt.scott@earthlink.net This area has world class tarpon fishing and great snook and redfish on the fly too.

Thanks Scott, I'll save your info. I'm always looking for contacts since my wife and I travel so much. She'll do some work and I'll do some fishing.
I recently started going to Islamorada and fishing for the "grand slam" with a guide named Bob Jones. That's some exciting fishing. When you see those tails or school of tarpon coming right at you, man, you get gitty as a school girl and seem to totally forget how to throw a fly. Love it. This past May I landed an 11lb bone (see avatar pic) and 90lb tarpon in the same day on fly. Then threw at a permit and didn't get a strike.
Thanks again. I'll be in touch.
