Fished SE Coastal Maine this past June for 8 days with a variety of folks including my grandfather, my girlfriend, and some friends of my granddad. I chunked gear for about half of the trip due to some heavy wind, and the number of folks we had in the boat. We had nasty wind from the North for a solid 3 days. Water temps. were lower than normal for this time of year at 57-60 degrees F. All in all, it was a great trip with the usual great scenery, including the wildlife. The fresh lobster rolls, strawberry rhubarb pie, blue berry pie, and fresh haddock made the trip that much better. I easily gained 5 pounds.

This was my fourth summer visiting Maine and fishing for stripers. The quality of fish was certainly better this summer. Last year, a lot of the stripers were in the 14-20 inch range; this year, we caught more fish in the 20-28 inch range. Big fish topped out at 36 in. again this year. I still have not boated a 40 incher up there on the fly rod, and that is my ultimate goal.

Enjoy.

Thanks for taking us along, Nate! That's a mighty nice keeper, and the stripers were cool, too. ;) Don

Some of those pictures remind me of Bath and Wiscasset, Maine. Especially the old ship in the water. Anyways Nate, great post. Looks like you had a good time.

cheers,

Nate, what a great photo essay! You got me pining for my Maine!
A few questions, if you don't mind:
1. Where exactly were you?
2. The lighthouse...where was it? I reminds me of the one on Isle au Haut just off Deer Isle. It serves as a bed and breakfast, all solar powered, and the best food (veggie) on the planet. There's a book called The Keeper's House.
3. What camera did you use?

Again, great pictures. Seems to me the girlfriend must be a keeper if she puts up/enjoys the fishing! Looks cold...the weather, not the girlfriend.

Nate,
Splendid video!! We are planning a trip to Maine for Summer 2008. I certainly intend on casting at something while we're up there.
Tight lines!

Very nice video. Try to substitute the word Maine for Mississippi in the song. It can actually work. I've never been to Maine but those shots have got me thinkin'.

I know that area!!! That's the Squirrel point light house, on arrowsic Island in the Kennebec river, just south of Bath. I use to live in Brunswick, and this is were I learned kayaking, hence the name kayakerguy. There is great fishing all along the sheepscot, casco, and quahog bays; kayak camping too. Man I miss that place. Thanks for making me remember what a wonderful place Maine is.

Good eyes Mark. Maine has so much to offer in the way of outdoors. Most of the others were from Casco.

Saw the eight weight was missing in a couple of frames. What gives?

Saw the eight weight was missing in a couple of frames. What gives?

1. 4 people in an 18 ft. skiff makes it tough.
2. A north wind that shuts the fish down, and makes it even harder for a cruddy caster like me to shoot 70 feet of line.

I know, I know...excuses, excuses. I'm only taking the long, wiggly rod to the Caymans.
