Hello,
I am new to NGTO. I've been fishing in the GSMNP for several years and would be happy to post updates on streams. Before I post any information, I was wondering what the policy is about naming streams in the park?
Thank You,
Mr. Vandalay

It seems there is some debate about the policy. I say better NOT to name a stream or river. If someone PM's you, I guess it's up to you at that point.

Here is a sticky on the subject:

Like Gator said, it gets pretty heated around here sometimes with naming streams.
However, water conditions in the park would be helpful to a lot of folks on the board who fish up that way. I'd say post but try to leave the names out of the post. Such as, "most of the higher elevation streams (above 3500ft.) have subsided to only a trickle", or "the larger, lower sections of the major streams in the park are stained and flowing well due to all the recent rain".
Just a suggestion though.
Thanks for the contribution in advance; I'm sure I'll use that info in the future if posted.

The rule out to be clarified pretty soon. Give it about a week or so. If it were me I would post the names and directions to the creeks. ;)

Maybe I should clarify my first post. I have zero intention of naming high elevation streams that took me years of driving, hiking and reading to discover. My idea was to post stream conditions and bugs for well known streams with more traffic and the added summer / early fall vinyl hatches.

I caught attitude just for asking advice on a particular WELL known stream. Some people have taken this thing to the ridiculous extreme. I completely agree we should keep honey holes and off-beaten brookie habitat to ourselves, but now some people whine if you name anything other than the Hooch or Toccoa. It's getting old.

Agree completely. Unfortunately, it has been heading that way for years.

LRO does a nice daily fishing report. Mr Vandaly any ideas what's hatching on the larger rivers like the Luftee & Little River lately. Latin names would be nice if you know them. Common names can be so confusing.;)

Thanks for the link. It is a "model" for what one could do with a forum/store.

The LRO site is good for the Smokies. And unlike some, they will actually name a stream or 2.

The LRO site is excellent if you plan to fish Greenbriar, Cosby or maybe Cades Cove. Unfortunately the 5 hr drive to TN is not realistic living in Atlanta. There are half a dozen NC streams in the park that are less than 3 hrs from Atlanta. I just thought it would be nice to post a little info on the NC side over the upcoming months, but it's obvious ya'll do not want it posted here.:bang:

I'm headed to Cosby for a few days. Send a PM and I'm happy to share any details on Sunday.:)
