Everyone here has probably already read this book or at least aware of it. If not, try "Casting A Spell- The Bamboo Fly Rod and the American Pursuit of Perfection by George Black (cw 2006 Random House). Great book. Not an owner of bamboo yet, but I am afraid I have been "infected" by this book.... I have a feeling it is a "slippery slope".

Thanks for the tip on the book. I've had that one on my radar screen. Be careful with this addiciton though- it is dangerous!

It is a good book that I read this spring. It's author is a frequent contributor to the Classic Bamboo Rod bulletin board.

I had the priveledge of spending a few days fishing and hanging out with George Black the last time he was down this way. He is what I would call a true intellectual. He has spent most of his writing career covering social attrocities around the world and said he just needed to write about something good for a change. It's easy to tell from his writing however that he's used to covering "heavy" topics, and this book is no "Trout Bum". It IS a very informative look at the "business" of bamboo during its heyday. Oh yes, he's a pretty darn good fisherman too!
