Morning all,

Well, I did it again! I bought another Orvis bamboo fly rod yesterday. Now, before you send the guys in the white wagon over to Kennesaw to wrap me in a straight jacket, here me out!

I came across my Orvis dream rod this weekend and just could not pass it up. It is a mint condition 7.5 foot Battenkill 2/2 5 weight rod. The amazing condition of the rod alone would be reason enough to buy it, but here is the best part: the rod was built by the man himself - Mr. Wes Jordan! I contacted Orvis last night and they confirmed that Wes Jordan built this rod in October of 1970.

I just love Orvis impregnated cane rods and now have a great sampling of them in my collection. I have two that were built by Ron White, one that was built by Calvin Skinner and now one built by the Master Wes Jordan. I gotta feeling this new rod is only going to come out on special occasions as it will only become more valuable with time considering it's condition and the fact that Mr. Jordan built it. Here are a few shots of my new rod:

Oh, tell the boys from Bellview that I take a size large straight jacket. :)

Would the next Boo meet & greet be one of those "special occasions"? That is a beautiful rod! I think I woul've been too weak to pass it up too.

Way to go, Buck! What a beautiful rod and a great piece of rod-making history! Even the tube is in terrific shape! You're going to enjoy that for a long time.

I took the 7-1/2' Battenkill I bought with your coaching out for the first time Saturday, and what a sweet stick it is. Combined with the old-fashioned click of the Madison reel, it's like stepping back in time. Really takes you to the essence of what fly fishing is all about. I'm looking forward to the boo gathering this October more than ever.

He scooooooooores! I know you've been looking for a Jordan rod for a while. Way to go. It does look like it's hardly been used. So how'd you come to find it?

Jeff,

One of the senior members of the Clark forum posted it early Saturday morning and I happened to be up having a cup of coffe and surfing my usual sites. My jaw about dropped when I saw the post with the pictures. As you see, the rod is in pristine condition and his price was very reasonable for such a fine example of Orvis craftsmanship. I quickly conferred with my better half and promised her all sorts of stuff I will never deliver on and obtained rare spousal approval to buy yet another bamboo fly rod. A quick email to the gentlemen was sent and I heard back from him later that afternoon that I was the first to respond to the offer and that the rod was mine. :)

From GonetoSeed: That "next, last one" is a beaut.

Yep, that was one of the things I promised her; " I swear honey, this is the last one, I promise!" Now anyone out there know where I can get my hands on a nice Orvis Superfine? :D

Buck, to help keep you in good standing with the spousal unit, I volunteer my services as a drop off point for any future purchases. I have adequate storage facilities, (climate controlled of course), and I will be glad to receive, store, and verify any and all bamboo rods that you ship have shipped to me. Of course verification can be time consuming, with trips to the mountains and all. ;)
All FREE of charge!!
