Wilson’s Trout Crack
Originator: John Wilson
Recipe:
Hook: 2457 TMC size 14
Thread: .006 mono
Body: Sand Antron
Back: Small Amber UTC V-rib
1. Start wrapping mono filament thread from top down to just before bend
and work back up to eye.
2. Tie in the vinyl rib at top and wrap mono thread down to bend and
back. Leave enough V-Rib to fold back across top of fly back to just
below eye.
3. Twist on Astron dubbing, very little, and wrap back to bend.
4. Fold V-Rib over top of Astron and do a segmented wrap with mono up
to just below the eye.
5. Whip Finish and apply head cement.
I’ve fished it like a nymph with split shot and with and without strike indicator. Also works well as a dropper of a dry (with small split shot) and a bead Head wooly bugger.
Change up Dubbing and V-Rib color and you can have multiple variations. I see it as a less complicated version of a Czech Nymph.
