I will get pictures ASAP, and I will try to make these directions as simple and quick as possible.
Size 14 Hook
Black thread
Black Biots
gold bead
peacock hearl
copper wire
lead wire, size .20
This is a simple version of the one you have probably seen or purchased, but it works for me on the DH.
-After the hook is on the vise
-Take about a one inch piece of lead wire, and wrap it on about 5 or 6 times (this is where the extra heavy comes from, all other recipes I have seen call for no more than three wraps) slide it in the bead and smooth out rough end.
-Wrap thread on hook from bend to eye, make sure to cover the lead, wrap back to the middle of the hook
-Take your two biots and make sure they are curving away from each other. I usually trim to length and turn one around to face the opposite way so the natural curve of the tips are spread apart.
-Tie down the biots, and wrap to the eye
-Take a piece of copper wire (about 4 inches long)
-Start at the eye and tie in along the shank
-Once you have gotten to the biots, stop and then begin your wrapping
-Wrap around the shank in a tight pattern until you get back to the eye, trim off excess copper
-use your peacock hearl (run your fingers from top to bottom to fluff out) and tie in several wraps starting at the eye.
-Whip finish three times, and add a drop of cement if you feel the need. I try not to do this because it pushes the peacock down.
that's it. I hope you like the ones from the swap that you get. If this is your dropper it will get down in the column.
I am also experimenting with silver beads and wire.
