Great questions. There are suspenders available for your Buck's Bag. I know the Fish Hawk carries them for around $15. The can be clipped on as backpack straps and then swiched over to suspenders when you float. When you stand up in Shallow water, the tube lifts up too. Basically keeping your hands free.
I also use a 6' prusik line clipped on to a D-ring and wade the shallower shoals with the tube in tow.

TTG, also carry a knife. If you get upended and the tube won't let you flip back over, the knife is to puncture the tube so you can resurface.
Also, here's a few threads thread discussing float tubes. If you use the Search function you'll find lots more. Happy floating!

How do you guys transport your tube in a regular vehicle---no truck or UV??
I have a truck but when We go up to Blue Ridge We take the car--better gas mileage---

TTG,
I seccond what the other guys have said, I recently purchased a pair of the suspenders (have not taken them out of the pack) and I also carry a little knife on my vest.
I inflate my tube and throw it in the back of my suv, but GB deflates his and pumps it in the parking lot with a dual action pump (it is quick with the double stroke pumpng action). So, you can put it in your car and inflate it when you get there and pull the boston valves and deflate it when you are finished. The pumps are about 9.99 -15.99.
before the shoulder straps I would just throw it over my shoulder and hold the rod in the other hand and then switch as needed, when in the water I woul hold the tube and rod with my hand as I walked through a shallow part.
Glad to see you are progressing in this addiction;)

FYI: I am pretty sure that Gunne bought a Buck's Bag, which comes with a truck tire inner tube. There is no Boston Valve on his tube and thus one of those double action hand pumps will not work. To inflate on site, you will need one of the 12 volt mini-compressors that has the standard tire valve head.

You are correct as to type of tube Buck--my son-in-law also got the same tube --I have a 12 volt mini comp that we used to inflate our tubes--takes about 10/12 minutes to inflate--
