thinking of tying some of these for my uncle for christmas. he likes to use bream to catch some bass but he always doesn't get to the bait store for some red wigglers. he was telling me about a tandem rig thing yesterday and i figured that and and a couple of nymphs off the back of these little things may help him catch some bait.

hook: size 12 nymph hook
thread: black 8/0
body: peacock herl
tail: olive marabou
hackle: grizzly

instructions

1. put thread on and tie to bend of hook. clip a small section of marabou and tie in.
2. tie in peacock herl and wrap foreward. tie off and click
3. tie in hackle and wrap once or twice. tie off and clip
4.whip finish and cement

very simple and this will be experimental for him:

Should work. Mini boogers will also tear it up on a speck stream.

Landon,

Curious about the hackle wraps - why just one or two wraps?

Landon - go ahead and an palmer the hackle the full length. Mini-buggers are great Trout flies. The 14" Brookie I caught on the Chattooga a couple Saturdays ago was on a black WB tied on a size 12 Teimco 200R.

Another good bream fly for your uncle is a mini-RLD. Size 12 or even 14 in black (black rabbit fibers for tail, black thread for body) and x-small yellow rubber legs is a killer bream fly.

That could pass for a number of things... Small minnows, leaches, Damselfly or Dragonfly nymphs... Gotta love the ol' Bugger...

I agree with the others about palmering hackle all the way up the shank. Another thing that might help is to get a 1xlong or 2xlong hook. You keep a smaller hook, but there is more room to tie on... Makes things a little easier. I TRY to do the opposite of that for tying small stuff... Tying a size 22 fly on a 20 hook... Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

Good work and you have already made some serious progress...
Keep it up...
