I am not buck henry, but I make that trip quite a few times a year.
I walk in my waders and carry my tube over my shoulder. The next time I go I will be using my caddis shoulder straps. Gatorbyte has used his and says they are great. You can use them as suspenders too, once you get in the water and the tube stays around your waist.

Hey Gunne,
I bought float tube straps at the Fish Hawk for about $15 bucks. They are made by Caddis I think but are generic and work with any float tube. They allow you to throw the thing on your back and keep your hands free. You can carry the tube with one hand and your rod with the other, but this can get very tiring if you are hiking a good distance as I sometime do. BTW, these carry straps also can be used as "suspenders" when you are fishing so that when you stand up to wade, the tube stands up with you. I think the straps are a worthwile investment if you are going to to a lot of hike and floats.
To your other question. I dress out completely, waders and all, then throw the tube on my back and start hiking.
