I have a 2002 (BPS) Waterskeeter. Steel frame, anchor system, and Burgundy pontoons.
The only thing that I have added is a seat mounted cup holder and a bungee cord at the front ends of the pontoon. Always carry extra oarlocks and d-clips.
I am wanting to add a storage platform, in place of the standard net, for a cooler in the back.

The ODC Toon just arrived  and it was delivered by our usual UPS person who I discovered is also a NGTO member "Dfiala". I wonder if I have enough hours to put it together and get it on the water today ::ke:
I was chating with Gatorbyte and Nu2trout about modifications (rear rack made from PVC and anchor system. They have some good idea in mind.
I told them we needed to try and get together before next float and have a pimp the toon session.

I have the exact same 'toon as Flygurl as well as an Ocean Kayak Drifter. I enjoy both, but would rather use the 'toon on water like the Hooch DH rather than water without much current. Used it on the Upper Hooch outside Cleveland a few times and some of the slow stretches were no fun to paddle. Much easier in the kayak.
Those pontoons really look fun.
Is Creek company the best place to get a pontoon boat? How about Cabela or Bas Pro Shop? Are they made in Steam Boat Springs, USA? Or made in China? Where are they shipped from? What about a Fish Cat?
I made anchors for my canoe out of a gallon milk jug full of gravel tied on a rope. :)
Thanks,

Something else I was thinking about with all the rods being claimed by the Hooch and other rivers, we may need something more then a rod holder.
I remember seeing a rod tether somewhere online sometime back. It was a cord that one end fastened to the base of your rod and the other end to either you or the toon/tube.
Here is the "Fly Rod Leash" from Cabelas:

Has anyone used something like this ?
If you have did you like it or did it just end up getting all in your way?

I have a toon and have never used it. I pucrchased it and a fold up trailer from a friend in September.
It is a Dave Scadden 9ft and so on. I believe it was a TU edition, or at least was sold thru TU. The toons are green, there is an anchor system, pump, ect.
Has anyone ever tried using a trolling motor on the Hooch and gone upstream around Abbotts? Is that even possible?

Olin - Where are you??
He has the most tricked out pontoon ever and a trailer that could carry a dozen! And his legs are long enough to make having fins useful. My short legs hardly let my feet reach into the water.

I had a JW Outfitters Renegade for about 12 years and through two sets of floats.
I recently swapped it for a 'boo rod and picked up a Bucks Bags Bronco this summer.
I have 2 toons :)
Both are Creek Company, My 1st is the 816, Added the rod holders (they make great oar keepers as well) and the metal rear deck with anchor system they used to offer. My 2nd is the 1018, It is a BEAST of a Toon. Added the rod holders as well. Both toons have milk crates bungeed to the rear decks and bungee's across the front.
I prefer the 816 in still water and the 1018 on moving water. Although both handle each quite well.

I've got something called a Bass Bug I bought from e-Bay. It weighs a ton but it floats well.
Sam, congrats on the new toon...you will have a blast with it.
As for rod holders, I have this and it works well:

I have a 9' Fishcat green with anchor and trolling motor mount. Rod holder. Back pack on back of seat with two water bottles. Padded seat added. Also a catawheel use to roll it around like a wheel borrow. Cut a U in the back storage plate so I can take the wheel and turn it upside down so I can float with it on the back. Really works out great.
Also have a Big Buck float tube with fins. But the pontoon is the best for me.

I have the ODC classic 8' toons. Custom fitted with cannons, plank, treasure chest full of pieces of eight, and flight deck complete with catapult. I'll be getting the rocket launchers next week. All accessories are cleverly disguised as a rod holder. Anchor system still being designed.

I'm not sure about pontoon boats ,but I had a ranger explain to me that when you put a trolling motor on a canoe it becomes a motorized craft and therefore requires registeration numbers,he was kind enough to only give me a warning.Would not want any of you scurvy dogs to run a foul of the Admiralty and wind up hanging from the Yardarm. How do you guys think those things would work on the Flint? It's never to early to start dreaming about the spring.

12-18-07, 10:24 AM
without trying to allow you to hijack my thread, I will tell you we talked about that very thing Saturday. We decided that there would just be one problem on the flint, and that is the skinny two foot drop we encounter just below the island. I am not sure if we could pass that drop by and walk it down on the far side. I think they would be great down there. I am already planning to throw some flies at shoalies in the spring, but I will have the spinning rod just in case;)
Now, back to the thread before I lop of some heads and feed them to the sharks!
Keep the count rising folks, I think we can create an NGTO armada and take over the rivers of Georgia!:D

I have the same as Flygurl.it has
Wheels that stay attached to move it around
Trolling motor mount (easy to make)
rod holder
storage rack on the back (for Battery)
10lb anchor (weight the drags behind to keep straight)
bungee across front
padded raised seat (6" higher)
Here is a thread I started last year asking the very same question ;)

WaterSkeeter Backwater 9 here. Only had it out twice, last week for the first time in moving water. Pretty dang neat.
No mods or upgrades, but am thinking about a rod holder and an anchor.

I have an Outcast 9' from BassPro, and recently got an Outfitter 300 from, believe it or not, Costco. A great deal at $299.99 and shows available on their website at that price sith shipping and handling included. Comes with a wheel, so easy to handle by one person. Comes with motor mount and anchor system (but the anchor system needs some slight improvement).
I have used an electric trolling motor on this, and the Outcast - neither are ideal for pushing upstream, but it's doable, sloooooooly. In about an hour (when the small battery runs out), I can get from the ramp at Medlock Br to the lower part of the Athletic Club golf course - then a good couple of hours float back down. Pretty much given up on the trolling motor - got a Mokai - works GREAT! ;)
here's the info on the Outfitter from Costco:

I saw them when in Michigan. The good points with them is you can get them custom built to your needs and you can arrange a test float if you ever get up to Michigan.
I didn't much care for the high profile of the tubes as they seem they would catch a lot of wind and the frames seemed cobbled together with all sort of bolts and brackets.

I have a Skookum Guide model (steelheader.com). I really love it. It is really heavy duty and rated for class V rivers. It has a standing platform. I added a folding lean bar and the foot release system used on drift boats. The service was excellent and I recommend these pontoons. :)

It looks like we have about 30 + people with toons. Now we need to set a time and get everyone on the river. I think that would be news worthy event if we could get all of these tons on the water at the same time, we might even get the news to cover the NGTO Pirate Regatta:eek:
How many of you are off during the Holidays?
could you imagine what wade fisherman would think, or even float tubers, if they looked up river and saw 30 toons coming at them?:yikes:

Gone - Unfortunately, I was forced to graduate and enter into the real world instead of fishing every weekend. My fishing time has been reduced to the point that I forgot how to even put my rod together. Hopefully, I will get out some over the next couple of weeks since I am on vacation. I miss college.

I know what I would think; I sure hope you are kidding! The mental image of this reminds me of the massive floating parties that were held on the Hooch every summer back in the 70's. Anyone remember what they use to call those things? They were a ton of fun, but were an environmental disaster so they quit doing them.

The Great American Chattahoochee Raft Race.. Sponsored by WQXI and Budweiser of course. I still have a sticker around here somewhere..
Or was it the Ramblin Raft Race, or something like that. I think the last one was in 1980, the only year I was in it at the ripe ole age of 16 ;)

I got in too late to be a part of the main body of the shooting the hooch, but I do remember driving over 285 many times and seeing the hooch full of tubes and rafts. I had the chance to do it once, but again it was at the tail end of the craze.
I remember float rental places all over the place and the shuttle trucks running back and forth.
I am not suggesting that we destroy the environment, or stop and jump naked off the cliffs. I just wanted to announce our presence with authority, and let the fisher people know that they need to join the ranks of the pirates from NGTO:cool:

Agreed, never meant to suggest you were suggesting that either, and I know you are just having a bit of fun with the whole pirate thing. I guess the thought of a mass flotilla of toons coming down the river "announcing their presense with authority" seemed a bit counter-culture to me, but to each his own.
One of the things that has always endeared me to flyfishing is that it is one of the few activities where one can find truly find solitude without loneliness. As it says on the cover of Flyfisherman Magazine, it is the "quiet sport".

nu2trout;
May I suggest a gathering at a local lake with a nice picnic area. It would afford all the chance to see the modifications others have made as well as the oppertunity to try them out. Pirates were a social bunch and the mingling of family's would be a great way to meet and greet one another.
Burgers, Hot Dogs, 'Tater Salad, Baked Beans etc. it would be a great day for everyone. From here you could plan future trips/outings.
I have a perfect lake here in Tennessee for such an outing but the license fees are restrictive and it is a 3+ hour drive from Atlanta.
I think you're on to something and don't let go!
