1) Place hook in vise and run thread to rear of hook.

2) Ty in your chart. wire and run the thread back to about half the shank length, and place your eyes on the top of the hook add a few figure eight wraps to prevent twisting. Some folks add glue here, i dont.

3) Tie in white bucktail on top of hook, securing in front of the eyes first. use a side grab method, and roll the deer hair onto the top of the hook. then wrap back toward the eyes, and then under and about 4 wraps back behind the eyes, then back to the hook eye forming a smooth taper.

4) Flip hook over, or rotate, then ty in about 8-12 strands of flash. can be whatever you want, colors to match or silver like i did here. The flashabou should go a bit past the tips of the deer hair. tie it in tight, and bring the thread back close to the eyes.

5) Tie in a slightly larger bunch of chartruse bucktail using the same method. Finish the fly wraps and make a nice tapered head. whip finish.

6) i like to use a permanet marker to make gills. i just touch the thread with a red marker close to the eyes. Dont do too much or it will run, and you'll have a red head.

7) Apply a coat of head cement, epoxy, or super glue. Depending if the fly is headed for Pike City, i will use Softex, or just cement. Epoxy is best.

These instructions are totally adaptable, and most folks already know this one. I like it because its easy, cheap and works well. i dont know that most trout will hit this over a wooly bugger, but often times they will if they dont want the bugger. try different colors, but remember the hook flips over because of the heavy eyes. Usually the white is the standard, but you substitute for the other color.
Ive actually tied some of these super heavy and cast the with spinning rods, and caught some nice bass with them.

To date ive caught nine different species on this fly pattern in both salt and fresh water

have fun with it

I was hoping someone would post this pattern, what brand and size thread did you use?

really doesnt matter brand. size, a bigger one thats all. im guessing i used about 6/0 thread, but im not sure, as its not labeled, and ive had it a while.

if you go with darker varieties (hair) it may be ok to go with darker thread, but suit yourself. its the action thats important.
