The Ami

Anyone fish it lately? I'm thinking of going there this afternoon after church. Anyone having any luck there?

I have not been up there in almost a month but a couple folks have posted recently and have said something along the lines of very few or any caught.

If you do make it up there today, I would be interested in your thoughts on the Ami.

Well, Levi and I hit it about 3:45 and fished until about 5:10. I had business in Dawsonville at 5:30 so my time was limited.

We parked at Hwy 53 and walked down the road to the concrete steps. They have done a lot of improvements up there since I last fished the park. I tied on a BH Prince and put two small split shot on and did a nice roll cast toward the other bank and WHAM!! Fish on! It was a nice little stocker, about 13 inches. Levi immediately hooked up on a Y2K and I thought we were gonna do OK. Those were the first and last fish we landed.

Talked to a fellow who was fishing Steel Bridge and he reported about the same.

Had my license checked which was a good thing. I like to see the Rangers up there.

So that's it: 2 stockers, nothing else.

The Ami's been tough to figure out this year. Other than some of the big pools with the fish stacked up, I haven't seen any reports where people of done well. It really doesn't make sense.

I usually fish there often during the DH. This year has been especially bad because of the low flows. The fish have not had the available water to spread out from the original place they were stocked. Also, during good water they will also stock in the middle of the DH between the two bridges. That did not happen this year.
