and for those of us who will never know due to inability of access to find out.......what do you consider the optimum CFS for the COOSAWATTEE RIVER for desirable wade fishing? Thanks for any response.

Coosawattee is a marginal river. There are some stocking that takes place in the Fall by places like Beaver Lake. Unsure if the DNR stocks at all. Check the DNR map for a stocking site. Mid year water temps, more than likely, depletes any holder trout. But, if you are looking for catfish or carp, you may have found the right place.

As far as the CFS, unsure. This river, along with most in GA has been very low. The lowest I have ever seen it.

downstream below carters is excellent striper fishing with almost zero pressure downstream of the dam

Yeah, especially when they run up river. Lots of fun!

My reason in asking the question is because I will be fishing Mountaintown Creek in the latter part of April. Since these two bodies of water are somewhat related, I figured that if the CFS flows were about the same, then they would probably "wade" about the same, of course my reasoning here could be way off base. Thanks for the replies by the way.

The water on the stretch of Mountaintown you will be fishing will be fine for April. When I was there in October it was probably at its lowest...and that wasn't really that bad I thought. In fact, I found it very enjoyable as did the four other very experienced guys I fished with. There were a lot less big holes to step in and much of the water was gin clear for a change. Since then, North Georgia has been seeing more rain then what they had all fall, which in combination with the colder winter temps (as opposed to the hot summer heat) probably caused much less water to evaporate. They aren't out of the drought by any means, but things are now starting to go in the right direction I would think it's safe to say.

The biggest problem was the high water temps that occurred over the summer causing a large fishkill. Since then that stretch has been restocked once already by the owners in October (and plenty of fish I might add!). The trout will have grown already by about three to four inches by April with the consistant pellet releases they do. I was told by the owner that in late March or so he will do another stocking to really give the population a boost before the busy spring fishing season in April and May. :)

Sounds like I may need to double up on my blood pressure meds ;-)
