I spent two weeks on Elk Creek outside of Boone NC last summer, had a blast and now I am hooked. Caught browns, shoal bass, sunnies (bream) and trash fish. I finally have time to get into it.

I want to fish some small streams here in GA but seem to have so many questions. Waders or hip boots, pack in and camp or drive up and hike, etc.

I would appreciate any recommendations on trips to Amicolola, Smiths, Soque, anywhere even if there are a bunch of horny heads.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Welcome aboard. Do a search on the site for the streams you listed and you'll find plenty of info. Come out to the stocking on Thursday of the Ami dh and and you'll take home some great info on the area and how it's fishing.

you probably want waders. Hip boots will just get you wet because the water will be 2 inches too deep. Wet wading in Ga is great, but only for 4 or 5 months.

All those waters you mention are good. Broad river is full of fish too, no trout, but plenty of bream and bass.

as for camping/drive in - thats what is so great about GA. you can camp a lot of places, you just have to get out a forest service map, and a gazateer map and drive. I went to school in the mntns so i found a lot of interesting places to camp....just get out there and look.
