I just scored a very nice addition to my humble little Orvis cane collection. I just bought a mint condition Orvis Superfine. The Superfine is a 6'-6", 2/1, 2 1/4 oz rod marked as a HDG [6WF]. But like most Orvis bamboo rods, it likes one line weight less and casts a 5wt line with authority.

The rod was originally built in 1969, but was professionaly restored by Orvis in November 2004 and is unfished since the restoration. The rod was stripped and rewrapped, with new chrome guides and a new cork grip & reelseat - really this is just like a brand new rod - but a great old taper and the character still shines through.

She should be here early next week, can't wait to fish with it at the boo gathering next week. Here are a few shots:

"Buck's New Boo." Hmmm.......seems like I've seen a thread like that on here before. Surely it can't be the same guy, can it? Ahhh..... now I know why you really postponed the gathering today.
Seriously though, that is one nice looking piece of cane. Hard to believe it hasn't been fished in 4 years since it was restored, but you can tell it by the grip. Nice score.

Buck, that is one SWEEEET looking rod. I actually had the oppurtunity to cast that model this morning over at the Orvis shop and it felt alive with a DT 5 Cortland 444.

Enjoy that one.....and lets see a pic with the first fish you take on it!

I remember once hearing, "I have all the rods I need." I guess you'll be ordering a custom Oyster pretty soon.

Yes, I do have all the rods I need, but I never said I had all the rods I want! :)

Actually, I have had my eye out for a Superfine for quite some time now. They are kind of rare and you just don't see them come up for sale very often. The Superfine is kind of like the Orvis Flea; very limited production, combined with the fact that they are great casting rods, make them highly sought after on the used market. Finding one in this condition was what pushed me to pull the trigger.

Very sweet boo Buck !

However, I have to agree with cucarachafly on the postponing of the Boo gathering. Especially after seeing his video of the outstanding river conditions on the Toccoa today. You just wanted to make sure you had enough time to get the new boo in for the gathering....you dog ::ke:

Nice score, Buck! Between that classic Orvis action and the light weight, that's going to be one fun rod to fish! I'm looking forward to seeing it, perhaps next weekend (still working on it).
