Went out a couple weekends ago and finally got my pictures back from Walmart.

Went to one of my favorite areas to catch a few fish. Started off the day with this little guy but I was huntin for his big bro.

http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj22/caddishatch/lilbrook.jpg

Kept on hiking for a mile or two and decided to call it a day and set up camp. Only one fish to show :(

After setting up my tent and getting a fire goin I decided to make a few more casts and I'm glad I did.

http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj22/caddishatch/brook.jpg

Getting hungry I headed back to camp and finished off the day with a fresh trout dinner and a few Busch Lights.

Got up in the morning nursing a hangover and hiked back out to the truck only to return again soon.

Just curious.

That is a beautiful fish and I am sure a quite tasty meal. Bet that was a blast!

I am looking for any areas that would make for a good overnighter.

If you don't want to say, that's cool.

Thanks.

I usually stay out of commenting on threads like this, but gosh, eating a fish like that really bums me out. It's so impressive I just can't see any reason not to put it back. I not trying to preach here because I occasionally like to keep a couple for the grill, but they're always stocked bows or browns.

Anyway, really nice catch there and I look forward to getting some brookies myself this year.

some folk are getting upset and maybe I'm wrong...but I don't know too many places where you could catch an actual native brookie in the same river you'd catch a biggun like that one...
So maybe it was just a stocker too...

Great fish you caught bud.

That there weren't no stocker.

Great catch, and don't let the envy get to you.

Never kept one of them little gems. But if I'd hiked in a couple of miles, well, I guess, maybe, somehow, I might have done the same. Beautiful fish, congrats

Sounds like a great trip...... so when are you taking me? ;)

The ole cooked brookie.

Pardon my suspicion CaddisHatch but we've had a problem with a couple folks that get their chuckles by baiting the blue line folks the past year or so.

And something doesn't quite seem right. What part of NE GA are you posting from?

Everyone knows there isn't enough alcohol in Busch Light to give a baby a hangover.

Ain't to sure a Busch drinker could even catch a Brook any how (stocker or not), all thou not against eating either one. TRW

Third of all at least I can spell "suspicion " Mr EG.

Fourth of all anytime ya wanna go up in my neck of the woods to wet a line with me bring your walkin shoes. I'll take ya up in a WMA that I like, go past the old school bus where the miners used to camp and back down the other side to wherer I cuaght em.

Dang cant anybody just say nice fish...and not accuze ethem of lying or what ever.

I'll go crawl back under my rock.

Whoa there dude - several of us did just say "nice fish"!

And I for one would like to see the old school bus ...

No need to get hostile about it. I personally could care less about you eating a brookie. I wouldn't personally do it, but to each his own. I will admit that I am skeptical of your 2nd brookie picture. I don't doubt that the size of your brookie is possible in GA (I've seen bigger wild brookies than this), but the coloration seems completely wrong (but hey I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time). Anyways, hope you can let this one flow under the bridge (so to say). You can get a little rise out of people on here for mistreatment/eating of our little North GA char.

Also I to would like to see the school bus.

Sorry about that. It really bothers some people to keep, or see someone else keep, little brookies. Can't comment on the beer but we have had some folks use posts like this to start something. Because of them some people, who were just posting a report, get bashed. Sounds like you had a good trip.(-:

There is not a thing wrong with taking one little brookie for dinner. For you guys who like to eat stockers, you don't know what you're missing. A little wild trout tastes 100 times better than any stocker.
What chaps my hide is people busting on Busch Light. There is nothing more refreshing than an ice cold silver top. After a long day of hard work on the stream, a thick heavy beer just doesn't cut it. Nice fish caddishatch.

I think ice cold PBR is the way to go after a day of fishing.

The cooked fish doesn't look like a brookie: look at the tail, not square like a brook trout. The pectoral fins don't look the same on those two fish either.

That being said, a brookie in Georgia as big as the one in the second photo, especially a wild fish, wouldn't last much longer anyway. Much better to keep one now and again than those guys that go get their limit several times a week (day?), as had been known to happen.

And that being said, I'm surprised to see wild brookies like those in year-round streams in Georgia. Seasonal, sure. I'm just saying....

Oh....nice fish!

Sorry bout the temper comin out but like Stewart and Goodyears we'll get thru it till next week.

Gotta trip up to the GSNP this week and I'll spare you my report. I'd hate to upset anyone or be accused of stuff.

It just really stinks when you post a report and ya get hammered and your character comes into question. You don't know me and I don't know you, until you do then let the boys be boys and the men will be men.

I'm declaring shenanigans! (if you have no idea what I'm talking about you are probably of fine moral character)

Mr. Caddishatch,

I've been waiting on a PM response from you for a week. The reason I was suspicious was not because of aaga's fine observations (which you sidestepped) but because the admins have the capability to look through those anonymous hotmail accounts. And yours are coming from a flatlander geographic location. Now, unless you are driving down to the metro area to post...shenanigans.

I have been wrong once before so I'll gladly apologize if that is the case. We'll get one of the Rabunites to go fishing with you.

But I'll bet a nickel on this one.

It is a nice fish.

Wow! Glad to know the ADMIN are looking out for us.

I DO live in north Georgia. I AM planning a hiking/camping trip to a brookie stream in a few weeks. I AM planning on catching and eating some brookies while I'm there. It WON'T hurt the population in the least bit. I'll give you a report when I get back.

I'm not sure what your point is but mine was that there are a lot of good sincere folks on this board that base there comments on trusting the folks that they talk to. I know you're sincere because you have a history here and on FlyFishSouth that people can see and form their opinions from.

I thought CaddisHatch was just yanking folk's chains and wanted to make that clear by the South Park references. But aaga deserved to get a fair shake after being referrred to as a naysayer.

There are plenty of dead brookie pictures floating around here. Julian Bryd likes to drag out a few that probably came out of the same area you will be camping. He likes to drag them out when he thinks folks are getting a bit carried away. But it's a tough crowd.

They just need to know what they are dealing with at times.

It's no big deal. Off to help B983 at the hatchery. My job is to open bottles for him as he cooks.

All that brook trout water will be open in a week or so anyway...

Back on point:

If people would focus as much energy as they do chastising those who keep fish and channel it into educating those who inadvertently or reporting those who blatantly destroy riparian zone vegetation, ignore stream buffers, allow storm water runoff to directly enter a stream/river, let silt fences go unchecked, etc, etc, etc!
ACTIVITIES THAT HAVE FAR GREATER AFFECTS ON TROUT FISHING THAN KEEPING FISH.
Those people would be doing a far better service to trout conservation efforts that would have long-term benefits.

That’s my opinion! (on second thought.........that's not my opinion.........that is a fact!) Amen to that! I agree 100% on that point.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Oh, the sad stories I could tell you of streams I USED to fish, but are now devoid of trout because of development.
