I had a reservation on Dukes Creek for the afternoon session, hoping to catch some stained water. A quick call to UO and John said the Hooch was flowing, but the water was clear. So I pulled out the back-up plan, a trip to a new mountain stream. Stopped by UO to pick up a few essentials and talked to Lee about the good times I missed at the Fling. And then I was off...

The FS road on the way in...

Homemade 3 weight posing for a shot...

Made it to the trailhead around 12 or so... And after a 2-3 mile hike downstream, I finally wet a line. Weather was perfect... Sunny and warm. Water clarity was good, but that little stream was flowing... But this stream was not going to dissapoint...

Even some mayflies coming off every now and then...

Started fishing pools like this...

And like this...

And pulling out these beauties...

I fished a yellow stimmie, size 16, all day long. And wore them out... Good to have fish rising to dries again!! :D Probably caught a few more than a dozen brookies... Some good ones too, missed a few that were even bigger. I also managed 2 little out of place rainbows below the falls....

A few of the bigger specks...

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p140/ajaume/P4060771.jpg

Then I came to the FALLS...

There wasn't going to be any climbing up these today...

The plunge pool below the falls...

And the result...

All in all, another great day out on the water... Nothing like finding a new gem of a stream... And catching some good brookies, on dries to boot...:D Not a bad day at all... Now back to the real world... Stupid work and school, keeping me from my fishing...

Hope yall enjoyed it...

I know I have asked this before but where is the smiley that is drooling out of control.;) I had to go through a total of about 8 hours of driving by trout streams on the way to and from vacation and didn't even get to wet a line.:bawl::nervs: I have been tying like CRAZY and I will probably dream about fish tonight!:shake: WHY CAN'T I GO FISHING!! Ok I am done, nice fish, nice pics, sounds like a great day.

and in the regs, so why not share the name? Why should this be a secret?

Schemp, I think you have your threads mixed up... This stream is not in the regs... And even if it was, I'd prefer not to post its name for lord knows how many people to see... That's just me though, and NGTO policy...

Appreciate everything else guys...

This is a great stream, and given all of its qualities, I would hate to see people skimming these "big" brookies. There aren't many places where you can catch 8 inchers regularly. great pictures, and excellent tact alex.

Great report, great pix. Keep the secret.

I feel that I have been to that stream (in my mind at least) but maybe not. I may never know if I stood on that same rock but who cares, that is part of the mystique IMO. I can feel like I have been there and may go again but that sense of wonder, expectation and mystery is part of the allure of fishing and exploring and finding you own "new waters".

Can't folks enjoy the pix and virtual experience without knowing exactly where all the time? [Rhetorical Q??? Maybe]

Didn't mean to contribute to making this about name, name, name, again. Degree of details left out is at discretion of poster IMO as long as basic disclosure rules of forum are met. I am OK with no details sometimes in posts even on large-stream forums. I am happy to see pix of fish and read of other’s experiences (in posts like this) most days.

Nic pix. Nice post.

Nicely put... Exploring new water is half the fun for me. I start hiking upstream and I always want to know whats around that next bend... Perfect plunge pool with a 10in GA Speck??? Who knows unless you try it... It might be a bust, but you could find a gem...

If you pay attention... Some of the small stream guys drop little hints, but you gotta pay attention...;)

ill tell of a brookie stream, years ago my dad told me of this, he,s passed away in 1998, go to andrews n c, yep north carolina, make sure you have your licenses, game lands permit etc, go strait from andrews to the turnoff on the nantahala river, where they load an unload those crazy rafters, follow the main road which goes eventually to franklin,, but i dont know if its a mile or two past the powerhouse, maybe its another dicks creek, he told me about it in late 1970,s some beautiful small brook trout, im gonna throw this dang keyboard away,, anyway, you gotta cross the nantahal,a get wet etc, an one of the creeks there,, follow it an start fishin, i cant remember which one, of course i seen it, an he , my dad was atacked by those wild boars there,, he went up a tree ,broke his fly rod etc, but he had been there i think more than once,, theres also more brook trout streams in all this area of course, an some nice native trout fishin all over like on white oak creek, that flows into the nantahala, i caught beautiful rainbows, and a ton of native trout here, some like i swear just a few inches,, they will readily hit the fly,, any fly,, most locals go for the stocked part of the nantahala, an only a few fish white oak, an other streams, during dingy times,, also streams runnin near winding stairs gap area,, queens creek lake area too, i mostly stuck to the river an would catch some natives an stockers a few browns, some good midge an very small caddis hatches here too, yellow little stonefiles right near the raftin place as you turn in that area,, if you lucky an catch the river low ,, small blue winged olives are good, but water can come up very fast,, its been a few years since i fished through here, always done pretty good, i might not expect the locals to be very friendly on some smaller streams, an it used to be game lands etc,, but i know the brook trout stream, one of them was very wild area, an you had to absolutely wade across the river to hike to it, some of you younger healthy dudes, if you go, make it like you were never there, please,, i wish i remember more, but i would always hear tales of these trout, and they always hunt bears around the river too, they are there,, so look out, an boars too like in tellico area, they have there brookies too, its just across from nantahala sorta kinda,, so thats it,, peace an god bless, .it may be a 3 or 4 mile hike i dont remember, before you start gettin in to the brook trout,.maybe more,,
