Nice looking fly GB !
Did you apply dubbing wax prior to whip finishing and then heat seal it like you usually do on your SHs?
I've started doing that as well cause I like the tight finished look of the head. What has your experience been with finishing off the head that way, have you had any issues with it coming apart after several bouts with the trouts we've been hooking into lately?

Concerning finishing off the head on SH flys; I have gotten to the point where I do not use any wax or cement at all. A few proper whip finish wraps is all I do and I never have the thread come apart on my SH's. I now only use hard wax on my SH's if the pattern recipe specifically calls for it.

I have stopped using head cement on anything I tie and have very little problem with things coming unraveled. No stopped up eyes or bleed into surrounding materials a good whip finish is all that is needed.

The one in the picture has no cement or wax. I did end up putting on a little cement later. I still like finishing them with wax.

I'm calling Shenanigans and Blasphemy as RBL just told me that Unithread is the only way to go and that silk is a no-no.

I thought I felt a disturbance in the Force! Or maybe what I felt was Stewart, Pritt and Skue's all rolling over in their graves!
Well, I guess we can tear up that invitation to the SOSH (Secret Order of the Soft Hackle) Club. ;)
