This is pattern no. 23 on T.E. Pritt's original "North Country Flies" first published in 1886. Pritt describes this fly as similar to the Dark Spanish Needle, but "more suitable for warmer days".

Hook: Diachi 1530 size 16
Wing: Feather from inside of a Snipe's Wing (Starling breast feather also listed by Pritt as suitable for this pattern)
Body: Crimson Pearsall's Silk
Head: Peacock Herl
