My son and I fished the Tuck weekend before last. The water was low and clear on Saturday May 31. The weather was warm and partly cloudy. We did best in the deeper runs and rapids in the half mile upstream from the 116 bridge. The most successful flies were #16 flashback BH pheasant tails and green #10 BH woolly buggers. We should have tried Y2Ks and San Juan worms but didn't. We were on the water from 10AM to 5PM and didn't see any hatch activity. We met a fellow who said the hatches were coming off after supper time. We caught brookies and browns but no 'bows. But we may have LDR'd some 'bows. The largest was a 13 brookie. NC stocks some large trout. We had a great time.
The DH season ended last Saturday in NC (I think). So the bait fishers may be cleaning out the Tuck by now.
Good Luck

Fylski,
I fished the Tuck a few weeks ago during delayed harvest and it was good. I recommend that you have a backup plan now that delayed harvest is over. I have been told that the Tuck is almost completely devoid of trout within a week or so after delayed harvest ends. The locals take every fish out. There is a local guide outfit near there (One Fly Outfitters, Black Mountain N.C. 828-669-6939) that can recommend a backup plan and tell you more about the Tuck and the Alien abduction of all the trout that seems to occur within days after delayed harvest ends.:yikes: I have hired these guys many times, and if the schedule and budget allows, you should go with one of them.
There are alot of blue lines near there, and the chalenging, yet rewarding Davidson is near as well.
There is so much water within 50 miles of the Tuck that would fish better this time of year......
Give us a report!
