Well, the sulphurs are out. Went and fished with a buddy from GA and my good friend Guitou who guides on the river. Floated a few days and hooked several good fish. My buddy even got a brown around 25" (maybe a tad more) to eat a cicada. Pretty cool eat. He tied it on just to fish it, after all, he'd spent the night before tying them up. No cicadas down on the river, but we figured hey, they're in the pass between Asheville and JC, so might as well try it. In just a few casts, he has a submarine under his fly-a few twitches later, the big brown just slurps the fly. Killer take.

Crowds are there, lots of boats floating from the weir down. The sulphurs are coming off pretty good and from what we heard, the guide boats were doing ok on nymph rigs.

Also, make sure to catch Guitou on the new TU TV show. I think he's on it either this week or next. He said fishing was pretty slow, but they had a great time.

June 13th is a little too early for the main hatch. I had a trip on the 13th and there was a few bugs coming off but not what I'd call a South Holston sulfur hatch. Fished it again on Monday the 16th. High sun, hot temps, no bugs. Fished it again on the 19th and the hatch started slow around 2:30. I thought is was going to be another dismal emergence but around 3:45 they started coming off in good numbers. The bigger fish are not on them yet. It should only get better as the days pass.

Good deal on the Cicada. Smallies are taking Cicadas on another river. But hey, nobody cares for smallies. ;)

Both the Carp and the Bass were taken on top with Cicada flies.

Awesom. Have fished that river one time. Love it. Wish we had a river like that closer to home. Beautiful fish even the carp in its own way. Congrats on another great S. Holston trip.

Can anyone give me some suggestions on lodging on the SH river. I know of the Castaways, which is booked, and the South Holston Cabins. Looking for something further away from the weir so I can get access later in the day following generation.
