Well, what do you do when you are fishing the Toccoa and the dam release water finally reaches where you are and chases you out of the river? You hold a casting clinic, that's what you do! Billy O was kind enough to teach of few of us the finer art of double hauling a bamboo rod and I took a few neat shots I thought I would share.

For the record, Steepcreek pretty much had it down by the end of the lesson, Cucurachafly was making great progress, and I was still pretty much clueless! But Bill showed us a neat way to learn the mechanics of the double haul and then it is simply a matter of practice.

Here is a shot of Jeff hyper loading the rod on the forward cast. Check out how much loading there is on the rod in this shot.

And here is Steepcreek putting out a serious amount of Wulff TT line with Bill's new 6 weight rod:

And finally, check out the nice tight loops that Bill was laying out. He makes it look so stinking easy!

Nu2,

Man when did you get an Osyter 4wt ? You know what I was saying the other day, it doesn't matter if you have a nice rod if you don't get it wet...just let me know if you need me to wet it for you :D ::ke:

Buck,

I've heard about Bill's boo casting abilities and that picture of him says a lot, but I'm sure it's even a better experience learning and watching him in action !

Thanks for sharing the experience.

kinda like patting your head and rubbing your stomach while trying to walk and chew gum all at the same time. :drunk: But it'll come.... eventually.

Those shots are amazing. Thanks for showing me I need to get out on the lawn and practice.

Thanks for sharing this, Buck. Among the many things I need to learn is how to shoot line with a cane rod -- and how to get some distance when casting an indicator, two decent-sized nymphs, and some lead. I was in the water this morning most of the way up my waders trying to get some distance with an old cane rod loaded with "groceries". It was ugly. Thankfully I finally found a fish dumber than I was, and we had some fun, but boy, it wasn't pretty.
