I'd recommend the following:

Fly Waters Near and Far - Barry and Cathy Beck
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/511dPU3tDIL._SL160_PIsitb-dp-arrow,TopRight,21,-23_SH30_OU01_AA115_.jpg

Friends on the Water - Val Atkinson (this one retails for $35 but can be had for $8.85 for a used one).

Seasons of the Yellowstone - Denver Bryan
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VT9XB3C1L._SL160_AA115_.jpg

These are hardcover "coffee table" styled books with high-quality color photography with flyfishing the primary subject. I also recommend The Outdoor Photographers Handbook - Barry and Cathy Beck as well as The Life of a Lab - Denver Bryan.

If you enjoy the photography in the major flyfishing publications (and catalogs), this is more of the same. They have really inspired me. I also need to plug The Drake magazine. Whether you love or hate the content...the photography is cutting edge!

If you decide to purchase any of the books....go to Amazon and get a lightly used book for a third of the retail price!

As far as websites....all the above have good ones. ....but check out Tibor Nemeth's Photography at http://www.tibornemeth.com/photos.html.

Hope this doesn't sound like a commercial.....but these books, magazines and websites have really helped inspire my photography.

What are some of your favorites?

Steve,

I would have to agree with you on the work of Denver Bryan, the assorted photographers contributing to the Drake, and the Becks. All are truly extraordinary.

I also love seeing some photos of the places I have fished that bring back vivid memories of the particlar trip. Or, even better, seeing a photo of a specific spot on the water that I have fished that may just be another picture in a magainze to someone else.

For example, the main photo (which was published in one of the fly fishing publications - the name of the magazine escapes me right now) on the following page http://www.coastalflyangler.com/salt/about/payment.php is one of those places that both brings back memories as well as makes me look forward to June each year when the stripers stack up on the flats.

Anything from Ansel Adams. He was the master. He's known for his B&W work, but most people don't know that he was approached by kodak to help them develop the first color films, and papers.

This was his set up. A large platform, from which he would take photos from. He could get better angles, and less distracting objects from up there.

This is one of my all time favorites from Ansel. It's called "Moonrise over Hernandez, New Mexico. 1941".
He got lucky on the shot. He was driving down the road during sunset, while the moon was also coming up. The sunset shone brightly on the tombstones in the field, and the clouds just under the moon. He immediately pulled over and loaded his large format camera, (which btw, only holds two negative slides at a time) and guessed at the F-stop and aperature. He didn't have time to meter it, and he knew it. By the time he took the second shot, the sun was down, and you could no longer see the tombstones.
