I am headed to Vancouver, BC and Vancouver Island Canada in late september/early Oct. and I need help with where to fish and what guides to use. I would go as far as 4 hours away (Whistler, Kamloops, etc.) I am a very seasoned fly-fisherman but this is my first trip up there and I am going since my wife is there on business. I initially wanted to go to Fernie, but I found out it is a long way off and a little too far. Would like info on trout/steelhead/salmon and I would also like an opportunity at some bull trout. Any info would be appreciated.
One option for you is Fred's Custom Tackle in Chilliwack, BC -- http://www.fredscustomtackle.com/. It's not more than an hour or two out of Vancouver. About three years ago I did a trip with them on the Harrison and Frazier rivers. We fished cutthroats for half the day on flies, then took out some heavier gear and picked up a couple of monster sturgeon. The guide (a fellow named Chad) was knowledgeable, friendly, and fully capable with his jet boat, and the place itself was not hard to find.

I think you are too early by a few months for steelhead, but should be able to get into some salmon.

I was there a few years ago and drove up th the Campbell River area and did some Salmon fishing. I can't recall the guide service we used but there are several in that area. Also try this link:

Post the same request on the message board at www.danblanton.com. The Dan Blanton site is more travel and west coast oriented.
I can recommend sightseeing but I have not fished in Vancouver/Vancouver Island. Whistler is not far from Vancouver and is a very scenic ride along a fjord. It is worth going whether you fish or not. Chair lifts convey hikers up the mountain. Pacific Rim NP is worth a visit. Telegragh Cove at the north end of Vancouver Island has whale watching and halibut fishing. and fish & chips made from fresh halibut. Telegraph Cove is a long drive from Victoria but the whale watching was worth it. Vancouver is a walkable city. Just use common sense regarding when and where you go. The road to Tofino has a Provincial Park with big trees accessable from a short trail.

I second Fred's. Try Roche Lake just on the Chilliwac side of Kamloomps. They rent boats and have very reasonable cabins. The bows in that lake are HUGE. I was there in the spring, so chronomids dead drifted about 8-12' below a corkie used as a bobber did the trick. The folks at Fred's know the lake well and can steer you in the right direction. Numerous streams in the area too.

FM, I see Oregon had an influence on you. Jeannie's board is great.

Yeah, I kinda got addicted, so I go back for an electronic fix pretty often. Steelhead are worse than heroin...
