Thank you to everyone for attending and or teaching. We had a good turnout, 4 instructors and about 15 students. I must say we have also completed the most boring day of casting for the entire clinic. Next Saturday we will build on the foundation principles we went over yesterday and begin using them in a more exciting and fishing related way. We will be presenting our flies to three targets from 15 to 45 away and learning to roll cast.

Thank you again.

Bill Kessler

PS for those of you unable to attend the first class we are still open to any and all wishing to attend. Below is a little more information on whom, when and where for next week.

All family, friends and fellow fishermen are invited to attend any or all of the clinic classes. Last year we averaged 4 Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructors or Master Casting Instructors at each clinic class, this year we may have more. Several of the instructors have recently become FFF Master Casting Instructors. So we should not have any trouble with a large class and if a given class is not large you will be able to get even more individual attention.

The second class will be held on 9/20 in Piedmont Park on the green behind the Park Tavern beginning at 8:30 am. Most clinic classes will last approximately an hour and a half. Tentatively, all classes except the final class will be held at the same time and place as the first class. The final clinic class will be held in the field beside the Paces Ferry boat ramp for easy access to fishing after the class.

Note: The Clinic is setup in the order below so that the foundation casting skills will be completely understood and reinforced before the introduction of more complicated skills.

Week 1 – Loop formation and Understanding and Practice on Multiple Planes and Casting for Accuracy.

Week 2 – Loop formation and Accuracy Casting from close – 15’ to Middle Distance 50’ – The Roll Cast

Helpful – a Medium weight rod 5-7 wt, a 100’ measuring tape, 5 or 6 targets (I use orange soccer cones but anything that will not blow away will do,) and a brightly colored fly line if you have it. The bright line will enable you and the instructor to see the line more clearly and make corrections more easily.
