Any particular reason for using a dry fly hook on a sinking fly.

I have used dry fly hooks with soft hackles before. Helps to keep them in the film.

main reason is im broke, so i usually only buy hooks in sizes that i use and tie them in wet and dry patterns...but hey they work the same for me...

Aesthetically, I think that soft hackles look better on a dry fly (thinner) hook.

I do the same thing spokes. If I can use a hook for two purposes, I don't see any reason not too. I share in your broked-ness. :)

Well if you need weight when using a dry fly hook for a nymph you can always wrap lead wire on there and that is cheaper than having to buy a set of different hooks for each type of fly you want to tie. Cheaper is always better in my book! :)
