I had to use a few days of vacation by the end of January so I packed the wife, kid and kayak on the car and we headed to my in-laws house in Jupiter for a long MLK weekend.

I wanted to do some night-time snook fishing and some back-country so I
per Fishhawk's recommendation I called Captain John Meskauskas @ www.stuartflyfishing.com.

Our initial Thursday evening of snook fishing got cancelled as the cold front was starting to come through and it was getting very windy in Stuart. I thought this was a very nice gesture on Cpt. John's part as he really wanted us to enjoy ourselves.

The weather had not made it to Jupiter yet so the wife and I hit the Loxahatchee on the kayak and started hitting the dock lights. We soon found a couple of dock lights holding some snook and the fun started. I got a bunch of bites, hooked 4 nice ones and managed to land 2. I now understand why people get excited when they talk about snook fishing. It was FUN ! We then switched so my wife could get one but the wind started picking up. She still managed to land a jack that was hanging out under the dock-lights but no luck with the snook.

I apologize for not having any pictures of the snook but we had our hands full. For some reason landing fish at night seems a lot more hectic than during the day....

Friday was pretty chilly and windy so no fishing. Saturday we meet Cpt. John in Stuart and headed north on the intercoastal for some snook on a muddy-bottom lake. Well, the water temp never made it past 57 degrees so the snook wanted nothing to do with us. Fish a few other spots and managed to get some baby jacks, ladyfish, and spanish mackerel. It was a pretty slow day by Cpt. John's standards but nonetheless he made it very enjoyable. The wind picked up through the day and we got some very good windy casting tips.

I am looking forward to going back this spring and trying to hit some tarpon.
