Does anyone have a suggestion on a tool or wheel apparatus to help tote a boat (70-80 pounds with no gear and 100+ with gear) from the car to the river? It is a NuCanoe, which has basically a flat hull about 42" wide and 12' long.
I bought something from REI from a company called "Seattle’s Best," which is ironic because it was the worst product I ever bought from REI.
If you have something you rigged yourself, pictures or a description would be helpful.
Many thanks!

Check out this recent post by gonefishn. He made a rig out of an old bicycle wheel for his pontoon boat that I understand works pretty good: http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71635

Go With the Flow in Roswell has wheels for kayaks/canoes. www.georgiakayakfishing.com Had a DIY wheels set posted a few months ago on their forum. The parts list was $70 compared to $120 for the store bought wheels.

my pontoon wheel wont work with that much weight on it. I still have to make two trips but it's easier than before.

I made one for my 12' NuCanoe from PVC and a couple of wheels I picked up at Home Depot. I'll try to remember to get some pix of it for you when I get home.
The only 'problem' (which is not really a problem) is that because of the hull design, I can only get the Nuc stable on it on the front half.

Great idea, I'm going to build one the next weekend I don't go fishin'. :)
Guess It'll be awhile before that happens.

Here it is... (All parts from Home Depot)
The wheels are on a steel rod axle.

Nice cart Geo.
Here's my version that goes in the scupper holes and broke on the third trip down the steps at Settles.
There is a guy on Jax Yak site that makes them with the pipe filled with bondo and fiberglass yarn that swears you'll break the scuppers out of your yak before the cart breaks.
I didn't ask how he knew that.
Bought my wheels and axle at Northern tool. Couldn't bear the guilt of stealing the wheels and axle of my wife's garden cart.
My next version will be a hybrid of Geo's design and mine with the fiberglass reinforcement.
