Can anyone tell me why my Morrish Mouse lands upside down 75% of the time? Is my foam to heavy maybe?
I tied up some as well and they did the same thing, one a little less than the other, but I wondered if there was a secret balancing technique....
I didn't catch any trout on mine, so I donated them to my buddy who lives on a 5 acre farm pond and upside down or not - the largemouths destroyed them.

Disclaimer: I haven't tied or used one yet. ;)
But... in looking at the design here:
http://community.flyfisherman.com/fly-recipe/morrish-mouse
it looks to me like all of the weight is above the hook shank. The deer hair sticking out the sides would act like a parachute, so I would expect it to land upside down unless I used a BIG hook.
My :2cents: worth.

Try trimming the hair a bit shorter, also I tie mine on a size 2 bass bug hook. It will land upside down some of the time but one good strip usually rights the fly.

agreed, i fish those along with the white bellied mouse all the time...and although they will land upside sometimes, the active strip and twitch fishing of them gets them right side up quickly.
