Anyone using a Canon Rebel T1i or XS(i)? I'm looking to get a new DSLR to replace a point and shoot. I'd prefer to have video capabilities as well which the XS doesnt have. The refurbished T1i is $599 with an 18-55 IS lens, probably the highest price I can pay. Maybe the Nikon d3100 is a better alternative for the same price?

I have the T1i and love it. The video is a really nice feature with decent quality.

Some of my first shots with the T1i:

This was from the big snow we had last winter. It was the first time I've photographed snow and screwed the exposure. You'll see the color shift in my pics.

What lenses do you use other than the kit lens?

I've got a few other lenses (all used).

12-28mm
24-300mm
50-500mm

Funny thing is I still really like the kit lenses. Much lighter and image stabilization make a huge difference at times.

I had the T1i until last weekend. It is a great camera and takes awesome pictures if you know how to use it and are willing to invest the time to get used to the features and settings. I had 3 slrs before i ended up settling on the t1i, nikon d3000, sony alpha (forgot model) and then the canon. by far the canon was the best.

I have my eyes on a 7D as soon as they come out with the new model. I love my 30D but video and the 7D's autofocus system would be nice.

The 50mm f1.8 is a great learning tool and a sharp lens at that. They are only about $100. I have a 50mm sigma and I shoot with it more than any lens that I own. I really like the canon 10-22mm ultra wide angle zoom also.
