Last week I went to the new indoor range in Roswell that had recently opened. It is called Sharpshooters USA. Here is a link http://www.sharpshootersusa.com/ . It is a state of the art facility with 3 bays and 8 shooting lanes per bay. One of the bays is a "Tactical" range with turning targets. There are two rifle lanes that can handle up to .50 BMG. Not sure I would want to shoot that indoors on a 25yrd range, but then again I don't have one. Lighting was great and the vent system was great. No smoke filled range at this place. As you leave the range they have a wash station with the lead release soap to wash your hands which I thought was nice touch. They do require everyone on the range to wear a hat with a brim. If you don't come in with one they will sell you a "painters" hat for a couple of bucks. They offer yearly memberships and I will be joining soon. They allow members to reserve lanes in advance so you do not have to wait for a lane on busy days. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and they will soon have a gun smith on site. All in all it is a great range. Nice to have one so close.

I have not been to that range yet; I need to go and check it out! I did recently visit another relatively new shooting range located in Sandy Springs: http://www.sandyspringsshootingrange.com/ The Sandy Springs range is pretty nice and they have both rifle and pistol ranges and also have one of those Tactical target set ups.

I also checked out the Sandy Springs range recently. I hadn't been to a place that clean and fresh-smelling since Thanksgiving at my mother-in-law's! Very well run with nice, polite people. I'm eager now to check out the new Roswell range, which should be even a bit closer to me.

All that said, there is still no substitute for shooting outside!

Speaking of, and aside from skeet/clay ranges or private property, anyone know where I can shoot outdoors? Do any of the WMAs still offer target ranges?

I will have to check out Sharpshooters, I'm right by there several times a week. I'm curious how it will measure against Bullseye Marksman off exit 13.

With Sandy Springs Gun Club opening six months ago in Sandy Springs and Sharp Shooter opening up two weeks ago in Roswell/Alpharetta there seems to be a local fad building amongst NO experience shooters. Especially on the weekends.

I watched the lady at the desk correctly hand a young girl customer in a group of four girls a rental 9mm semi-auto with the barrel pointed down. First thing the girl does is grip it and raise it up to horizontal pointing it straight at the lady behind the desk. The lady behind the desk calmly placed her hand on top the pistol barrel and pushed the barrel down. I still think as I'm typing this that that girl had no idea she had done anything wrong. Neither do the other three.

Not thirty minutes later I see a dad hand his thirteen year old son a 357 magnum revolver and tell him to take that back to the desk and get something else to shoot. "And don't forget the bullets!" he yells. When I tell him it is illegal for his son to have that handgun without direct supervision he looks at me like I'm a bad guy.

When you see a young man shoot a 45 ACP with one hand and he almost loses hold of the weapon, you have to wonder if movies are making it look too easy.

Learning to fly fish on your own is ok, shooting is not.

Be careful out there.

If any of you folks are into tactical shooting, Guns and Gear in Lavonia, Ga has an indoor range and all the tactical arms you could ask for. You can rent a 50cal, all sorts of hand guns, even fully automatic weapons.

http://www.tacticalgunsandgear.com/firearm_sales/

It is located just off I-85 Lavonia (Hwy 17) Exit

Desil: I was a member at Bullseye in Cumming from the time they opened until about a year ago. I really Doug, the owner, and the staff. It is a good range and I really enjoyed shooting there. The new range in Roswell is over three times as large. Really nice.

MM: That is the reason I shoot on week day mornings when possible. It is rare that I go to the range on the weekend. They are usually too crowded with two many unsafe people. Send me a PM and we will go shoot some time soon.
