Been turkey hunting twice on a work trip in South Carolina, fully guided. Both times, shot turkey. Loved it! Made me want to do it in Georgia.

I am lucky to have a brother-in-law who loves the outdoors. This fall he purchaed property near Milliedgeville. His primary purpose, deer hunting. As an extra bonus, there is a 2 acre pond on the property. He is working hard to prepare the land for next fall's deer hunting.

Sunday we went for our first camping trip to the Tuttle Farm. First camping trip for Jack and I with Julia. My Dad and his wife spend the day with us. My brother-in-law came and ende up staying the night too. We had a wonderful evening watching all of the stars in the sky.

Woke up later than expected. When I got out of the tent, my brother-in-law was raring to get me to the turkey. We heard gobblers on both side so the property. So, I set up in a field and started calling. I heard hens in the bushes, but the gobbling was getting farther away.

I headed out to the back of the property and set up near brother-in-law's deer stand. He had said this fall, he saw all kinds of turkey in the area.

I set up on a down hill towards a creek. Across the creek, another creek t-boned into it. I could see up the hill on the other side.

I started calling, hoping not to scare any birds away. Here come 2 turkey down the hill, across the creek. They are zig zagging making there way to the creek. I was covered by an oak in my line of sight which makes it easy to put away my call and get my gun. The turkey turn and jump the t-bone creek. I see a beard on the larger bird and take aim, patiently, and take my shot.

My first turkey on my own :)

Way to go, Beth! It's an active style of hunting that really appeals to many of us. And turkey breasts respond quite well to woodsmoke!

Outstanding! Turkey hunting is about the only thing that will make me put down a flyrod for any length of time. I think you'll have jumbled priorities starting next spring!

I will have to agree with Mr. Creech on this. I put down my flyrod in the spring and from March till the end of April I stay totally obsessed with Turkeys. We have two more weeks in May but its usually rediculously hot in mid Ga and gobbles are at a premium. Glad to see you put one on the ground and I hope the rest of your spring goes as well as mine has.:D
