View Full Version : NGTO Sporting Clays Outing! 5/15
I've been doing a lot of shooting lately at Noontootla Creek Farm's sporting clays course http://ncfga.net/Sporting_Clays.html here in Blue Ridge and thought it would be fun to organize an informal get-together in honor of our new shooting forum. So let's just do it!
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s313/oystersb/Center_Sporting_Clays.jpg
What: 100 shot, 12 station, sporting clays shoot for NGTO members
When: Next Sunday - May 15th, 2:00pm
Where: Noontootla Creek Farms clays course near Blue Ridge, GA http://ncfga.net/Contact_Us.html
Cost: $35 which includes golf carts
What else...
This is an informal and open shoot for members of any skill level designed to encourage participation in this fun sport, support my local course, generate interest in this forum, and...and...and... do you really need an excuse to ride around in a golf cart and shoot stuff? No experience is necessary, but you will need to bring your own gun, target grade amo, as well as ear & eye protection.
If you have any questions just send me a pm or post them up here since someone else might be wondering the same thing.
Please RSVP in this thread so we can be sure that they can accommodate our numbers. Hope to see you there!
Bill O.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Wish I could make it down for the shoot but some caddis have been sporadically coming off the water here, maybe gearing up for the Mother's day hatch which will likely happen a week or so after Mother's day this year...
Anyway, I hope y'all have a fun time. Shooting clays is always fun.

Oh, you know that I am in Bill! I have shot clays at the NCF course before and had a great time. It has a good mix of straight away and crossing shots, and the mountain setting makes this a very pretty place to shoot sporting clays. And driving up and down that mountain in a golf cart is worth the price of admission by itself! :)
Thanks for setting this up Bill and I certainly hope we get a good turnout!
Hey Bill
I have never done sporting clays before but it sounds like a lot of fun. Closest thing I have doe is hand thrown clays in the back 40. Unfortunately I will out of town next weekend and can't make it. If you set it up again sometime, I would love to come out and do some shooting.

Wish I could but I've already fished two days in a row. Try Serenity Garden Cafe right downtown for brunch.

Two Days! Shame, Shame. Right before Mother's Day too. :shake:
Thanks for the referral on the brunch.

Afraid I'll be working that morning if I'm going to skip out to shoot in the afternoon.
You might also want to try Harvest on Main (on East Main St. of course). It's just up from Unicoi Outfitters and two doors down from my place. The food is the best in town, by a long shot IMHO, and they even have old shotguns and bamboo fly rods on the wall - what's not to like?!

The L & L Beanery on West Main (other side of the tracks, literally) also does a great brunch and is a local favorite.

Well as they say, "it ain't the arrow, it's the Indian!". :) I shot at NCF with Grizzz a few months back and he borrowed my Remington 870 Special Field that has a short (21") barrel. As I painfully recall, he out shot us all that day!
PS: There are not too many 18" barrel shotguns out there; is this a factory firearm or has the barrel length been modified?

That may be a little too "sporting". If its an 870, I have a 28" modified choke plain barrel you could borrow.

???? Isn't an 18 foot barrel a little hard to swing?::ke:
Wish I could make this event, but other plans have been made by the one who controls the kitchen passes.;)
If I get back into town in time(very likely),I'll be there.

Man, this is going to be fun guys! BTW, I am pretty sure we are just meeting up at the NCF Clays location. I think Bill will be in his shop during the morning hours doing some work, but will play hooky in the afternoon to host us for this outing.
Remember to bring your own gun, ammo (100 rounds needed), and hearing protection!
Yes, we'll just meet up at the sporting clays check-in cabin. If anyone would like to follow me up I'll leave my workshop on East Main St. about 1:15
Shaping up to be a good group, and it's not too late to throw your hat in the ring, so come and join us! Feel free to bring after-shoot refreshments:cheers:

One last bump, come join us for some sporting clays at NCF tomorrow. Golf carts and things that go "boom"; what's not to love!
Thanks to everyone who turned out to make today such a great time. We got to see some beautiful guns, enjoy a cool day in the mountains with friends, and I hear that a couple of folks even busted a clay or two :D. Looking forward to seeing some of Gatorbytes pics!

What a great outing yesterday up at the NCF sporting clay course. We had a great turn out and everyone had a super good time! And thanks to GB for tagging along to take all the superb photos of the shooting (no gun shooting was allowed for GB due to his back problems; doctor's orders!). And after all the shooting stopped and the gun smoke cleared, there were cold adult beverages and fine cigars for everyone! :)
Again, a huge thanks to our host Bill Oyster of Oyster Fine Bamboo Fly Rods (www.oysterbamboo.com (http://www.oysterbamboo.com)) and to Noontootla Creek Farms (http://ncfga.net/Sporting_Clays.html) for hosting this event and thanks to everyone who came out to shoot yesterday. I am already looking forward to the next one!

GB found something he can shoot without getting a boo boo.
From the pics he posted above you can see that he's more focused than I am.
That was a great outing. Count me in for the next one or just give me a call and I'll go. Three people works great for taking turns shooting, scoring and pulling.

Looks like a nice place and a good time. Good to see GByte up and around ! Speaking of scoring--I won't ask who was last, but who was 1st ?? Had I been able to make it, I know Jeff Roach would have been safe. :) I've only done this once before and I was not very good at it.

Hey, both me and Bill's father-in-law, Bruce, had moral victories of sorts; no one was hurt- well, seriously hurt, anyway. This was a great time and we need to do again soon. Thanks, Bill, for setting it all up.
