My 7 year old wants to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. Anybody have any suggestions for a decent setup? If anyone has one, I'm buyin.

Now that my then 7 year old is 15, I will throw in my dos pesos.

Kids that young have the attention span of a door knob. If it ain't fun it ain't gonna last.

Make it as easy as possible. Kids get frustrated with not hitting the target as they expect. Manage to the risk. 7 is a bit young in my experience.

Best of luck.

I think I was probably manufacturing bows of sticks and using whatever straight shaft I could find for an arrow by the time I was 7, certainly shortly thereafter. In the process I came with in a fraction of an inch of costing my younger brother an eye. The first things to teach him is never point the arrow at anyone. I know Bass Pro has some small compound, but a straight limbed basic bow would probably servce him better at first.

Cabelas has a basic Fred Bear recurve for under $20.

I bought this setup for my daughter 2yrs ago when she was 11. It has really been a great setup as she still as a long way to go on upper body strength as this bow can adjust for a full range and draw length. Very easy to change.

Don't think this is a toy as it is a full function compound with plenty of power if they cam draw it at full weight. It is a good starter as it will hit where they aim unlike many of the other youth bows and hold their interest as they build strength and are able to shoot tighter groups.

You can also look at Parker bows. They have a youth program where you can trade in the limbs as they grow instead of buying a new bow every 3-4 years.
