Picked up this sweetie at the recent show. Got a pretty decent deal.
This is the Compact GI model. Taking her to the range this afternoon for her first feeding.

Ok Fellas. Put only 100 rounds down range. No failures what-so-ever using 230gr FMJ Winchester white box. I know these pistols have been discussed before but let me tell you. I love this gun. It is a real pleasure to shoot. The basic GI sights are a little hard to get in line but once you have a feel for it, this pistol is pretty accurate.
Anyone thinking about purchaisng one of these Rock Islands, I say go for it. Darn good pistol for the money. The fit is really tight, finish is great and the included mag is a high end Italian Act-Mag 7 round.

Happy shooting !!

Reminiscent of the Combat Commander that my wife uses. How are the grips during firing? I can't tell from the photo if those grips are smooth or 'grippy' (can't think of a better term). I really like parkerized finishes - I guess the old soldier in me never leaves with regard to that feature. Does it employ a Mark IV barrel and bushing or the A1 style?

It is an A1 type. The wood grips are smooth. They felt pretty good when firing but they could get a little slippery with sweat. I'll prob upgrade to a double diamond checkering down the line.

I was also shooting a 40 cal yesterday. It's a S&W Sigma so it is way lighter.
With the weight of the 1911, the recoil was only slightly more than the .40. Real easy to get back on target.

It is a really handsome pistol. I know you can't wait to go back to the range and put some more rounds through the pipe. Very good choice!! I am biased - I am a .45 shooter. I need to check that out personally...hmmm...maybe a new friend coming soon

Nice weapon, but that trigger "guard" in the photo seems a bit extreme.

Actually that blade makes a very nice stand for a better photo! I will book that one for future use.

Ok, just to be honest, that is not my pic. I swiped it from the net. That is , however, identical to my pistol. Same model and grips.

The guard is not all that big. Although I have only handled a few 1911's.

I agree, I like the blade as a kick stand too.

I've got one that's been upgraded with sights and diamond grips and a trigger job.

They're fine guns for shooting. However, they're "cottage industry" guns made in the Philipines, and some parts will not interchange. That's not to say they won't work, but parts you could ordinarily drop in take some gunsmithing.

A guy I know bought the target model and the bushing was so tight (for accuracy) it required a wrench to remove it. It was a very tight gun throughout.

This is my second RIA .45. The first one I got rid of. It was the tactical model with good sights on it, but it had a problem that I couldn't fix.
