View Full Version : Dukes....
Junk Fly

This is my first post on the forum so bear with me....
I am hopefully going to be able to take a trip up to Dukes within the next few weeks :cross: as a birthday present from my parents. I've fished Dukes once and was somewhat disappointed with results:bang:. I've noticed that reports have been good of late, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice other than the standard stuff (small tippet, small files, wade quietly).
Any advice that anyone is willing to give regarding things such as fly selection would be greatly appreciated.
I hope to be posting other things in the future.:)

Easy to say, harder to have... Patience!
A little rain and stained water would not hurt either.
Take your time and good luck.

I'd be willing to show ya around whenever you decide to go. PM me the days you're looking at...

Patience is the key, after you figure out all of the details. Fish breath would make a supreme mentor.... Take him up on his offer.

Where's the "Like Button" for the remarks on patience? :)

Don't get caught up on small bugs, I've caught a lot of fish out of there on big bugs...change is key...

All of the above advice is key, BUT irrelevant if you don't give good presentations. I was there on Sunday and got fish on big, small, bright, and natural flies. Pretty much any fly that works in other N. GA streams can work at Dukes. The most important part, in my experience, is a good, drag-free drift. If you follow all of the above advice with consistent, drag-free drifts, you won't need to worry much about which pattern you're throwing. One thing that has yet to be mentioned: fish deep.

My best advice for Dukes is to jump on this offer....with a quickness. Well and kindly done, Landon.

I would offer advice and offer to show you around, but Fishbreath has way more knowledge and experience there then I will have for a long time; I am still a relative newbie there.
Take him up on his offer, you won't be dissapointed! Whether or not the fish are biting, you will come away more equipped to fish this creek then many who have been going for years!
Good luck on your birthday trip!

Landon definately knows his stuff up there, but this may be the most humble post I have read in a long time here.
We will be reading Hoochbusters books in a couple years..............

Right on.
And like Mark said, if you're not hanging up on the bottom from time to time, you're not deep enough

Kelbo, we should take a before and after picture of our fly boxes when we go to dukes for the day, I think that that will get the point across:)
The big boys ain't gonna move too much in this cold weather, bump that rig right along the bottom and strait into his kip!
