I often look at threads posted in this forum and wish I could smell what was going on. Today, y'all should be happy we don't!!!

Madame announced early this morning that she wasn't fooling with meat tonight; she had a hunger for greens that wouldn't go away.

The next thing I know, some smoked jowl is chopped and thrown in the large pot. It was joined shortly by chopped onion. Eventually, it was joined by kale and turnip greens.

After several hours, I found my mouth watering and myself drooling. But as wonderful as that aroma was, the phrase "No Meat" was sinking in!!! Argh! I'm a carnivore, this won't work!!!

A quick kitchen check showed some bacon, and a two-pack of hot-house tomatos that look good and, well, smell sorta like real tomatos. What the heck, BLTs and greens meets my criterion. As long as the tomatos don't suck I will be a happy, drooling idiot very soon!

and its a fine time of year for greens too. The garden is overrun by collards and kale but we finaly have the turnips on the run.

Another good way to expend kale is with a stir fry with peanut oil, soy saucse, vinegar, srirachi pepper sauce, and a couple of cloves of garlc. Collards stir fry well with oilve oil, a little garlic, lemon, vinegar.

There was a great Mexican recipe for turnip greens in the paper a while back but I had to dial pack the red pepper from three teaspoons to one and backfill with Ancho pepper. It's still pretty sparky.
