Ya know, chere, it has done been a real good day. First of all, I got to sleep in 'til nigh on six-fifteen this mornin'. That's a good two hours more sleep than I usually git.

Me an' mah wife, Meaux (that rhymes with "geaux" and if you can't figger it out, ask any ol' LSU fan an' they'll tell you how to say it properly) have been a-lookon' forward to this day fer a while now. It's significance includes being the day of the NGTO Fall Fling,as well as the meeting of my LSU Tigers with them abominable white pachyderms of the Alabama Crimson Tide. As fer how a crimson tide is represented by a white elephant, I ain't got no idears.Go an' ask on of them. Of course, them Alabama skules got issues when it comes to mascots. Fer example, Auburn's mascot is the Tigers, but they hollers, "WAR EAGLE!" when they play ball. 'Bama has a mascot of a red wave, but they let on like they's all about white elephants. (This leaves many questions about the quality of education in the state of Alabama.)

Ennyway, it was a pleasure today to compare Gheenoes with Jakal03. His black Gheenoe Classic has all the bells and whistles! His'n gots a center console built-in, a bunch of hatches up front on a raised deck, a live-well, battery storage com-partmints, sa-weet rod holders, a insulated compartmint fer holdin' beer (or mebbe redfish), a powerpole anchor system,an' a really big Johnson! I have a bit of work to do on mah LT-15 model in order to be as fancy as his!

DaDa's Fishing was also there, albeit he hadn't brung his boat, the 'Hoochee Mama with him. The new version is a fifteen-footer with an 8HP Johnson pushin' her. Mebbe his Johnson ain't so big as Jakal's, but I'm told it's not always about size. DDF left me with his raffle tickets in hand as he headed back to the homestead to keep an eye on his young daughter who had just relinquished ownership of her tonsils. (I'm sure his early departure didn't have nuthin' to do with no UGA game or nuthin' like that.) Ennyways, he done won hisse'f a magnetic lanyard fer his net in the raffle. I'll be sure to see he gets it (the lanyard, that is) when I see him on the 'Hooch next.

It was mah distinct pleasure to finally meet Beaverbyte today. A couple weeks ago when Meaux and I was a-fishin' up near Shakerag Rock, I was havin' a heckuva time gettin' a bite on ennything. I finallly pulled out a egg-type fly, tied by Beaverbyte, that had come to be in mah possession via Architorture. Upon the first cast with it, I had a very nice brown hooked an' "brung to hand" as y'all reg'lar trout-meisters say. It was quite the priv'lege swappin' stories with him after the Fling.

It was mah privilege to meet a whole plethora (I jes' learnt that new word there) of the folks whose posts I have been a-readin' fer nigh on a year now. Jes' lookin' 'round and seein' folks allowed me to git names an' faces properly associated. Many of y'all actually put yer REAL pitchers on here as your avatars, so it was easy to associate names and faces to a good degree.

Thus far, mah journey to becomin' a true fly-fisherman has been a pleasant one. I have received good instruction by way of many of yall's posts, as well as some hands-on instruction at the "Fling" events. (I have still to figger out how that young lad, Brandon, kin jes' up an' decide to step out into that cold, 'Hoochee water without no waders or nuthin' in mid-March and proceed to demonstrate the proper technique fer a good "dead drift!")

NGTO, thanks to all of y'all fer makin' north Georgia even more of a home to this displaced hill-billy/Cajun. And by "NGTO" I mean to include ever' single member who has ever posted on this board, 'cause it takes ever' single post to make this board and this trout-fishin' family what it is. An' I am honored to have been allowed to be a part of it all.

Now on to more important things for this fifth day of November 2011. . .

GEAUX TIGERS! Beat 'Bama!!!

Ok, so... So far, so good!! I started with a couple of rusty grades in remedial math 0097 & biology 1101, but went from a 67 on my 1st math test to a 100 on my 2nd, and went from a 78 on my 1st biology exam to a 98 on my 2nd. :yikes: On my 1st world history 1112 exam I got a 96 +5 points on a curve = 101, and on my 1st major english test(grammer) I got a 96. So overall I would say so far so good. The reason for the grades is I spend my time doing 6 things only, eating, sleeping, driving, sitting in class, studying, 1hr in church on Sunday. Mostly studying. The side effect is that I have not had any time to fish since August 15th(exept a couple hours at the dam), but I have my priorities straight, and besides, I have the whole month of December off anyway. Spring semester doesn't start until January 1st I think? Idk. Anyway I've gotta run. See ya when I see ya!! :D

Started College A Couple Weeks Ago. I started on August 15. I have had little to no time for anything outside of studying & going to class. I am really wanting to go fishing, but my studies come first. I am learning a lot and really enjoying my college experience. Sometimes it is really stressful, and others I just can't help but smile all day. :) I'm meeting lots of new people, making friends, and I am enthusiastic about learning new things, and mastering old or familiar topics. Yesterday, 8-31-11 in my Biology lab, we did "The Goldfish Experiment." where we measure the Bpm(Breaths Per Min) in various water temperatures. It was a lot of fun! I am taking school very seriously and spending almost all my time studying, and hopefully it will all pay off! :)

Seemed pretty lifeless on the water. After about thirty minutes, I gave up and started trying to make accurate casts under tree limbs. Pretty tough.

Another NGTO member across the river was in a float tube going after stripers. As of our chat, he had no luck. Hopefully he had some after I left. He gave me a nice striper fly. I hope to put it to good use.

Might have to go out there with my ultralight and the always successful rapala.

It was still a nice evening on the water, and the dog enjoyed it, even though the current was a little strong for her.

Frrrrr.

The lower river is up and a little off color.

Looks like they released the dam; nice, cold, fresh water going into the river.

Should be fishable this afternoon.

This is my first "journal"; ever.

In regards to anything below Morgan Falls dam, I feel like I can be a good resource with fishing reports/entomology/general observations.

I'm at one of the main stops everyday; mostly because I live in the woods next to the Cochran Shoals stop. It's easy to get out there and fish every day.

It's also a good substitute for walking my dog.

I will use this blog to keep everyone updated with the fishing in the area; trout, striper, shoal bass will be the main fish topics.

I tend to pull out a fine net to collect insects in empty dip cans once a week too, so I will probably provide pictures with those as well.

This blog will probably updated every other day.

This will also be a good resource for all of you wondering if the river conditions are safe and clear for fishing.

As of today, the river clarity at Cochran Shoals was back to normal. It had that nice greenish tint. We narrowly avoided another blowout; a storm passed by and it barely drizzled.

I threw a few rainbow patterns today, and I caught some pretty nice shoal bass. They weren't as consistent as they had been in the previous week, so that makes me think the most of the trout have died off. All that hot, rain runoff really upped the temperatures. I measured the temps at 73 degrees. This was at 7:00 PM EST.

There was no evening hatch of any kind, so I did not see a single riser.

Hopefully, when they release the dam(s) throughout the week, it will cool off the water, and the trout activity will start to go back up again (I was still catching roughly 3-6 trout every other day before the rains, so, hopefully, it will go back to normal. They were all browns).

*****END TRANSMISSION*****
