Still, I just can't swallow the $40 or $50 for a high quality, big fly box. Using a Plano ProLatch 2-3715, some closed cell foam, a straight ruler, and handy scissor work I crafted out a nifty, cheap big fly box similar to a Cliffs bugger barn for under $10.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending some time at Marty Adams' place, Cabin on the Creek. First of all, let me just say that on first sight of the property, I already started liking the place. It's a lovely little piece of secluded property tucked away just off the beaten path and it has a small, pretty stream flowing through it - a small stream full of ginormous trout - and after I hooked up with a few of them I was ready to become a permanent resident of the place! LOL.

I only started fishing for trophy trout this year, with my only experience having been Dukes creek. I've heard a lot of comparisons about the fish in Dukes and other stocked trophy trout, like the fish in Dukes are prettier, they fight harder, are harder to catch and so on. Well while there are undoubtedly some football fish in the Tesnatee, all the fish I caught were well-proportioned and they fought extremely hard. I landed three fish that were between 16 and 17 inches and they all three put on some really impressive aerial displays. I also hooked into two 20+ inch rainbows that fought really hard, with loads of energy.

The first 20+ incher I hooked, keep in mind I was fishing in stained water with all the rain, was right in front of my feet and I couldn't even see him there, until he felt the sting of the hook and came straight up out of the water. He was a big one! He ran all over the small pool he was in and I thought I was going to be able to net him, but he swam to the top of the pool, seemingly to try and hit some branches just above the water, but I put the brakes on him and then I felt the hook kind of slowly give way. I thought for sure he straightened out the hook, but he didn't. I guess he just managed to tear it loose.

Anyway, after that I thought, well this hole is probably spoiled, and I was going to head on, but then I thought, what the heck, so I cast in again. On about the third drift I hooked another beast right in front of my feet! I set the hook and he just went around like a submarine. I knew he was big, because I have a stiff 5 weight and I just could not get him to lose any depth. He just kept cruising around, pulling for bottom. Then he tried to run downstream, and I realized because of what I did at that moment, just how much I've learned from catching those big fish at Dukes. I took center stream like a baseball catcher, with my net ready. When the fish made a run for downstream at my feet, I jammed my net in the water and shook it and scared the fish back upstream. He tried to run past my feet two more times and I shook my net in the water again, chasing him back up. Then he went wide around me and got past! I thought for sure I would lose him then, but instead he ran out of line and surfaced, so I netted him. He was a real handful and I was trying to get a photo of him, but it had been raining and he was really hard to handle, flailing about and all, and before I could get a photo he flopped around, got my line caught on a limb and broke loose! Probably the biggest trout I've landed in my life, easily 20+ inches, and maybe five pounds, epic battle, and NO PHOTO! :bang:

Needless to say, I called it a day at that point. I was spent! LOL. I caught a good dozen or so fish in only about four hours, from tiny dinks to monster rainbows. I thought the place was great and so was my host, Marty. What a really nice man, and I enjoyed meeting his family too. Thank you sir! Here's the only photo I managed to get for the day, of a high jumping 16.5 inch rainbow. Looks almost identical to a 17 inch Dukes fish I caught recently, and this one actually fought a lot harder than the Dukes fish, believe it or not.

I need some advice on Myrtle Beach. What's the best shot at catching a decent fish? I don't see me taking flies on this trip since it is totally foreign territory. It will be a DIY deal and no $ for a guide. Ill sho nuff owe you a cold one if I can get into some fish. I really don't care for the flatlands, especially when the Smokies are red hot, but the estrogen rich Hollis family like the beach a bunch.

Thanks!

If so, what kind of loop will slide best through the guides?

Ive never been to Amicalola Cr., but was thinking of making the hour and a half drive up there to fish it (when the weather calms down for a while of course). I would like some guidance from yall though before I blindly go wading through what I understand to be a semi-treacherous creek.

When I get to the steel creek bridge, do I need to go upstream or downstream? Are there any areas that tend to be more productive than others? PM me if you have more specific directions. I am mainly going up there to get away from the Metro hustle, but surely would like to catch a fish or two.

Thanks.
