I started slowly with a stimulater above a wooly bugger and then switched to a bead head nymph. That picked things up. There are some excellent runs and holes at JB. I pulled at least 1 fish out of 10 or so of them!

Later I fished a bead head nymph above a red midge with a bed head and the fish really liked that red color.

Every place that was greater than 1 foot deep on the downhill side of the riffles had fish in it.

Man, we are really lucky to have such a productive, beautiful and accessible river like the Hooch.

take care,
Any info would be very much appreciated. We both just started trout fishing this year but we're hooked. We love it.

Hello everyone,

We are just a couple months away from our annual Fall Fling at the Buford Hatchery on Saturday, November 6th, and I wanted to go ahead and put out the official call for volunteers to help with the set up and production of this event. I have received PMs and posts from folks already who have said they would like to help this year, but I would like to use this thread as the official volunteer sign up sheet.

Like last year, I have broken things down into the primary "buckets" of work that need to be accomplished and will form teams to support each major workstream. I will be asking for a team lead plus several volunteers to be on each team so that there will be a focused group working on each major area.

So, if you been wanting to get more involved here at NGTO, here is your chance. The BOD is grateful to those who step up and help each year, as this event would not be possible without the willing support of the NGTO membership. Please send me a PM or respond to this thread if there is a team you would like to volunteer to help with.

Friday Night Big Tent Set-up - this is an "if needed" team in case we are looking at potential rainy weather. We will not know if we need this done until very close to the date of the Fling. Please do not commit to this team unless you can be at the Hatchery Friday evening (Nov 5th) to support. PS: It would be great if some NGTO'rs that live up Duluth way could fill these slots.

Team Lead: B Kar Ma

Team Members (4 needed):
1. Chuck Morris
2.
3.
4.

Saturday Morning Setup Crew (tables, chairs, etc) - this crew will need to be at the Hatchery early (7:00ish) to help get stuff set up and ready to go.

Team Lead: Gatorbyte

Team Members (4 needed)
1. Tommy King
2. Henry Wolfe
3. Terry Creech
4. Chuck Morris

BBQ Support Team - this crew will help Brent and the Goldstar folks with all work needed to set up and support feeding the masses. Everything from pulling pork to setting up serving tables to keeping the feed troughs full!

Team Lead: B983

Team Members (2 needed):
1. Runner
2. bonedog

Auction Support Team - this crew will assist with set up and running of the silent auction and bucket raffles.

Team Lead: Cucarachafly, Buck Henry

Team Members (2 needed):
1. scallen2112 (Clark)
2.
3.

Casting Games Support Team: This team will support the set up, judging and tear down of the fly casting course. This would be a great opportunity to work alongside some of the best fly casters in the state!
Team Lead: RocketRoy

Team Members (4 needed):
1.
2.
4.

Tear-Down and Clean-Up Team - this team will help with getting everything broken down and cleaned up after the Fling is over. A special thanks to those who are willing to be on this team and stick around to help us button things up!

Team Lead: Gatorbyte

Team Members (5 needed):
1. Henry Wolfe
2. scallen2112 (Clark)
Team Members (4 needed):
2.
3.
4.

Drag Free Drift will also need some volunteers. Please see this thread for sign up with Deb aka Mudpuppy: Drag free Drift Seminar

That's it, I think! We may identify a few more work teams as we go forward, but if we can get dedicated teams in place for the above items, we will be in pretty good shape. Thanks in advance for those willing to serve!

I have never tried to fly fish on the lake, I have had great success with "super flukes" top water bait on the lake with spin rods the spots explode on them:yikes:. I am wanting to try to fly fish ...with something similar. I have seen the gummy type minnows and some of the clousers look like my main attraction the blueback herring. Has anyone tried or had success up on Burton, its clear and a tough lake in the first place I know, any tips would be appreciated...I also noticed in April the Carp mating on the rocks ! big fish wow any idea how to hunt those down on the lake?
I'm always amazed at how many people are fishing during the week. My excuse is shift work:rolleyes:. 10 fish cooperated with me today and came to hand. And one 14 inch thick rainbow too. The name Bob came to mind as I was bringing him in:rotfl:. I don't believe so though. This fish had a real golden color to it and its fins and tail made it look like a recent hatchery release. But a good sized fish if so. Always good to get out on the water wherever it is!
