Exactly. There is probably a good chance that they at least lurk here.

I doubt it was vandalizing kids, too much risk, and too far from civilization, ie, the big city, and more specifically the suburbs, that is where most of that crap happens.

A lot of assumptions being made, might be best to wait for more information. "Likely" vandalism would be more accurate, though I suppose there's evidence not included in the article which could upgrade that to "apparent" depending on the nature of the valve and how they were able to narrow the timeframe down to a four hour period, but not any further.

If you think we should wait for more information, then how is your "assumption" of vandalism any more credible than this possibly being a targeted hit?

          Targeted hit =/= vandalism?!?

          Vandalism:
action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property.

Clearly someone read the Dukes thread and went bonkers.

Valves, heh, I just had a client call me yesterday (an older one) who had turned some valves on his large koi pond (30+ large 20yr old koi) and ended up with water spewing out of a filter pot that he could not get the lid back onto. I had to walk him through the valves until he found the right one.

Could have been an anarchist, kids, or an old man. Who knows, I can say I would definitely invest in some remote controlled valves and a security setup of some kind. Seems foolish to rely on basic plumbing for such a large operation.

The fire that swept through Gatlinburg and killed a fair amount of people was started by teenage kids flicking matches along the chimney tops trail in GSMNP.

I'd be willing to bet in hindsight they would have never done it. But at the time I guess there were no critical thoughts running through their minds. Last time we all thought it was PETA folks or whatever but it turned out to be kids messing around with moving valves.

This is the incident from April, 2015. I guess they weren't teenagers.

That crossed my mind. I just cant imagine a trout purist hatching a scheme like this, however much they may dislike stockers.

I used to camp in the area, closer to the swinging bridge, there were some characters up there. I'm gonna guess it was some really dumb kids or a really smart bear.

This is pretty sickening we can all agree but pretty tame compared to the 1/4 million trout genocide that happens in the DH annually.
                      We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
                      Wandering by lone sea-breakers
                      And sitting by desolate streams;
                      World losers and world forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams.

No big deal. We feed that many to the stripers via the Hooch DH every season.

As long as you dont consider being on the hook for a federal crime to be a big deal.

Never thought of it from the perps perspective. I am thinking of it from the taxpayers/ fisherman's perspective.

I find it ironic the disdain for the DH being shown here but that is an excellent point of comparison/contrast between the DH and this crime. All the assumptions of who is the guilty party though... jeez. Let the legal process handle that. Given the limited knowledge we have, check this thought out... the Hooch DH per year costs around $250,000/year(ESTIMATED based upon figures here) to have fish in it for six months. Marinate on that...

It befuddles me how anyone can brush this off as no big deal. This was a shameful criminal act regardless of the motivation and a grand waste of resources on many levels. I guess death is death at the end of the day. But I don't see how any one could find moral equivalence between how these fish died and fish being stocked in the DH for our fishing pleasure.
