he went to retrieve it this is what he found.

Yesterday on Chickamauga lake. What do you think about gill netting?

That's disgusting. Right before spawn... That person needs to be caught.

Were those set by the fishery biologists?

Sometimes they use gill nets to sample fish populations.

I highly doubt biologist would set a gill net right before spawn and possibly compromise a population of seemingly healthy fish. Very odd and very sad.

It was a commercial Fishermans net. It's common to see them on Chickamauga lake
          and nick-a-jack.
The guy that found the net full of bass called twra.
No telling how many game fish are killed by gill nets.
you know this is not the only time this has happened.

That is how you destroy one of the best bass fisheries in the country.

              Question

I have a question about gill netting bass. Is there a commercial market for bass fillets? We eat a lot of seafood and I have eaten some bass over the years, mostly smaller ones but even those just do not taste that good. Or is there another use for them? thanks! --jk--

This could be bycatch by folks targeting other species or it could black market illegal netting.

Not a fan of black bass either for eating

No, not really. They have them in the fish market at the Buford highway farmers market, and I've never once seen anyone buying them. Some people will eat anything that's edible, but I doubt they'd pay for largemouth bass...
