  • Another 1-8 JB report

With the temperature hovering around freezing I was tempted to stay home under a blanket and take a nice Sunday afternoon nap but decided to hit up JB real quick for a couple of hours.

4 fish to hand... literally to hand because I forgot my landing net. I actually lost 3 good sized fish just trying to land them without the net.

A couple took the formerly known prince (size 12 that I tied), one on a 16 zebra midge, and one on 14 pt. Temps were tolerable with all my cold weather gear but once my hands got wet, it was over.

The best catch of the day and it might be the best one I caught in the hooch so far!

It was totally worth braving the cold !

Dang, nice fish! How many hours were you on the water?

My fingers were throbbing due to the cold. Luckily they never really got wet so I'm sure that helped me out tremendously. Did you use a single fly or two? Just curious.

          Thanks everyone.

          Joshm:

I was probably on the water about 2 hours or so. I was using a tandem rig. The larger, flashier fly on top and I tie a tippet on the hook and drop a smaller fly about 12-18 inches below it. I tied these flies myself so they have Tungsten beads and lead wire wrapped but if I use regular purchased flies, I would also use a split shot.

I used a thingamabobber as indicator today. About 3-4 feet above my first fly. I get tangled up occasionally but not nearly as much as I used to. I try not to false cast as much when using multiple flies with indicator. Also I try to let the current straighten out the line downstream and just flick the flies forward and shoot out some line at the same time... more false casting, more tangles....

Wow, thanks for the detailed information. I think your set up is very similar to what I've read about and what I did. I guess it's true that even if I have the "book smarts" it's a whole lot different once I actually get out there and try to perform.

Thanks! Yes! I feel like BI has higher density but JB may have bigger fish... Just a feeling but I haven't been doing this long enough to say for sure.

Way to go, great fish! Makes my hands hurt just looking at these pics but "pain is temporary..."
I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took a Clouser in the knee.
