Can't wait for DH? Try Smith Creek. It was on fire today, at least from the culvert/stone bridge down to first foot bridge. Not sure, but I suspect that is the area that was stocked for Unicoi OAD weekend before last. My wife wanted to get out and about, so she and I drove up to Unicoi, and while she was doing her thing at the lodge and in Helen I fished Smith Creek. I expected it to have been fished out, but instead enjoyed an early taste of the upcoming DH season, lot of fish, and eager to bite. One of my better days, in fact I can't remember a better day on Smith. Caught fish on a green weenie, copper john, and green squirmy. I was the only one there until I was leaving and met a guy and his daughter from Florida arriving to give it a try. Here are pics of three of the fish I caught.

I took Poison Ivy there Sunday for a few minutes, thanks to some intel from BigT. She landed 6 rainbows on an egg pattern, and then she watched me do a similar performance with 2 browns and 2 bows. Then she had soccer practice so game over.

I had a good few hours today (Friday) trying to slime the beautiful grass rod that Runner made for me two months ago. I was worried about its mojo until Trout "R" graciously offered his spot below the big culvert bridge and suggested I go small or go home. I must have looked desperate because at my age I certainly don't look threatening. In any event, I proceeded to exercise a good number of stocked rainbows and browns on several colors of midge imitations before "paying it forward" by giving the spot to a young lady being guided by her father. It was a pleasure to meet you Randy and I appreciate your generosity and advice.

It was very nice meeting you as well. I just wish I would have waited around to see you catch a few on the beautiful high dollar cane pole you were sporting!!!!

Not high dollar, just high value. The rod was built by NGTO's own "Runner" who in addition to volunteering hundreds of hours to fly fishing and veterans organizations is a master fly rod builder and occasionally offers bamboo rods on NGTO at "starter" prices. Get you one.
