  • Smith friday?

Hey y'all it's been a while since I've posted I've been really busy with work and school, but I have the day off Friday and I'm debating between fishing smith creek or hitting lanier for some stripers. Does anyone know how smith has been fishing lately? And if so what patterns are working? Not looking for specifics, just want to know if it's worth my time and if they're still eating the typical DH junk or if they're keyed in on more natural flies by now. Thanks in advance and I'll be sure to post a report if I make it up there!

They threw some fresh brookies in last week. Seemed to be fishing well.
If I ever think of something worthwhile it will be here !

Look up in the timeline for windknots repost of dredger's weekly fishing report.
You can usually find stone killer info in there

I managed to make the time to hit smith in the afternoon and it was great! Ended up landing 18 in just over 3 hours, a lot of Brookies mixed in too, which made the day awesome. All of them were caught nymphing and I also hooked a few really solid fish but couldn't manage to get them to the net. Here are a few pics

That is one beautiful Brookie. Big too for GA. I didn't know they stocked Brook Trout in GA.

Hey Buckheadflyfisher, good to hear from you, bud. You been slaying the striped fish lately?

Great report. Iíve always thought the Smith DH fish were exceptionally beautiful.

Going to try and hit Smith this weekend! -First timer. First time going for trout anywhere in GA other than the hooch. Excited!

Do I park my car at the Unicoi Park and walk in from there? Should I head downstream?

You have to check in and register at the lodge. From there you continue on 356 to the first road on the right, very short distance and easy to miss if you've never been there. Turn right and follow several hundred yards to the parking lot on the left (pay lot). From there it's a short walk to the creek. If you walk down the road you will see the big hole at the bridge. I've caught many out of that hole and upstream to the dam.

Thanks Kbrunson Iíve been out a couple times since Iíve been back from break and have caught a few stripers but nothing to write home about, most of the guys I work with are big Time trout fishermen so Iíve spent most of my time off trying to step up my trout game

Good luck. We were there today and the fishing was good. Got 7 to net. I recommend getting there early though. Lots of people at the park.

Is the lot/lodge in the park on Unicoi Bottoms road off of 356?

Im sure I can figure this out but just trying to make the most of my time.
