Toccoa (Horseshoe Bend)

Here is a short video of me fishing horseshoe bend this past sunday in the rain. I caught 15 in just a couple hours. No big ones but was still a blast.

Entertaining Tourists!

When fishing the 'Bend or other key locations along the Toccoa and in sight of the railroad, do not neglect your tourist entertainment obligations. All you have to do is listen closely and when you hear the excursion train approaching hook the bottom, put a nice bend in the rod and move it back and forth like you have a trophy fish on! I have seen the tourists almost fall off the train trying to take photos of us doing this. Sometimes I wonder how many family vacation photos I am in .........

Actually I had a cop pull up along side me and sit there for about 15 minutes. Did know if he was about to arrest me or ask me what fly I was using

On the DH last Saturday I did well with black micro leech and a candy corn I tie which is similar to a y2k Those are normally my two flies of choice of the dh. On the tailwater I normally go with small natural size 18-20 pheasant tail or hares ears with and without soft hackle and Sunday at horseshoe the fly of the day was a size 18 JLO soft hackle that I tie. I posted a pic of it a while back

One thing I always wonder is how often to change flies. Do you make 10 casts then change all your flies to something new? Or do you keep the same thing tied on all day until you find fish that are biting? Assuming you are fishing the right depth of course...

It depends on the area and how much I fish it, how well I know it etc. A lot of days at the dam for example I will never change flies but I have on my confidence flies, i know the dam inside and out, the depths, the areas that normally hold fish etc.

If I am fishing a river I am less familiar with I tend to change out flies more but I will normally keep one confidence fly on most of the day and experiment with the other fly but I am still not one to make frequent fly changes.

Forget the exact details but a buddy of mine ran into him at a HoJo/Holiday Inn bar in Montgomery back in the 80's. Sat there and watched UK BB game with him, never mentioned who was other than Keith. Talked UK BB and Bama FB all night. Maybe 5 people in the place. Realized it was KW after hearing he was in town for a concert the next day. Said he couldn't have been a nicer guy
