  • Weight rating for a Martin 61 reel?

I picked up this reel a couple of flings ago. It seems small enough so I was thinking of using it on a 2 or 3 wt rod. But the only designation I can find is the 61, which I gather is a model number. Surprisingly, I was unable to find any kind of specs online. Maybe its so basic, wt ratings are beyond it. Anyway, has anyone used these and know what rod/line wt it works best with?

I have one of those. It will hold a 2 or 3 wt with backing just fine. Only problem I have had with these Martin clicker reels is if you try to use them on some rods that have the slide ring reel seats the reel feet aren't thick enough for the rings to tighten up on them. You might have to glue some kind of spacers on top of the reel feet to make them thicker.

It is a light weight reel, so for me would be best to balance rods up to 7 1/2 feet, or possibly 8 feet. It should hold up to a DT 5 wt line, so a 2 or 3 wt. line with backing should be fine. See this web site for more info:
