    Casting Clinic

I will be giving a free casting clinic. There will be six sessions during the clinic which will cover a wide variety of casts, however the clinic is devoted to giving participants a strong understanding of what it takes to make a good strait line cast and how to correct errors when they occur. Instruction is based on the FFF’s 5 basics of the strait line cast. Casting instructors are welcome to attend and assist. In order to achieve the goals of the clinic new participants should try to attend 4 or more of the sessions.

All sessions are open to any one wishing to attend, but require that all participants bring their own equipment for practice. No casting equipment will be provided. Recommended equipment is a 5 to 7 weight rod with a floating line. For casting practice a 7’ 6” leader with 10 lb. tippet works very well. We will be using a yarn indicator as fly. Lighter tippets typically break on a regular basis and heavy tippets of over 16 lbs. tend to kick without a heavy or wind resistant fly.

Please wear eye protection since the possibility exists of being hit by another caster or yourself.

Note: There is no sign up for this clinic. If you show up I will assume you wish to attend.

Depending on the number of attendees we should be able to deal with any specific casting questions unrelated to the general casting instruction.

    Session 1
Will provide an overview of the basics, grip, the 5 Essentials of the Cast and practice at short distance.

    Session 2
Will reinforce the basics and continue practice at short and medium distance. We will reinforce the concepts of the 5 Essentials by discussing the changes required for a change in distance.

    Session 3
Will reinforce the basics and continue practice at short, medium and long distance without hauling.

    Session 4
Will introduce hauling and longer distance casting. We will discuss analyzing the cast and how to correct casting errors.

    Session 5
Will concentrate on dealing with the wind and fishing situations.

    Session 6
Will concentrate on distance casting and specialty casts by request.

Note: Sessions 4 though 6 will also reinforce the 5 Essentials and how to correct casting errors.

Session 1 will be held at Garrard Landing Park, 8000 Holcomb Bridge Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30022 on Sunday October 7t beginning at 9 am.

Guys/Girls it doesn’t get any better than this. Here is your chance to learn some casting!! It’s always good to learn from someone that knows the mechanics of casting.
    Thanks for offering this!,

      Bump for an excellent opportunity.
"I'll tell you what I'm blathering about... I've got information man! New stuff has come to light! And shoot... man, she kidnapped herself. Well sure, man. Look at it... a young trophy wife, in the parlance of our times, you know, and she, uh, uh, owes money all over town, including to known pornographers, and that's cool... that's, that's cool, I'm, I'm saying, she needs money, man. And of course they're going to say that they didn't get it, because... she wants more, man! She's got to feed the monkey, I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?"- The Big Lebowski 1998

Session 2 of the Casting Clinic will be at Garrard Landing Park

Session 2 of the Casting Clinic will be at Garrard Landing Park on Sunday Oct 14th at 9 am.
            8000 Holcomb Bridge Road
            Alpharetta, GA

            Session 2
Will reinforce the basics and continue practice at short and medium distance. We will reinforce the concepts of the 5 Essentials by discussing the changes required for a change in distance.

In addition we will discuss fly lines – types and tapers
Also “How to Analyze the Cast.”

For those who attended the 1st Session we discussed the following:

            Keys to Casting

            FFF
            No Slack
Straight Line Path of the Rod Tip
Power must be used at the Right Time and in the Right Amount - aka. Accelerate the rod tip.
There must be a stop and a pause at the end of each stroke
The Casting Stroke changes with the amount of line beyond the rod tip

            BK Additions
Before a casting stroke begins the rod must be in position to make the cast
After the last cast the rod should follow the line down so, that the rod position will not affect the cast.
