      1/10th mm

1/10th of a millimeter is the variance of .22 to .223.

So when I pull one of my big bores out of the case and everyone is looking at me I can say I'm hunting with an 11.4 mm instead of saying it's a 45-70.

Former machinist. Memorized the multiply by .03937 as we had to do this conversion all the time.

Yep--me too Todd. As long as we were working with Pratt & Whitney and GE engines it was inches. When it was the British Rolls Royce engines it was millimeters.

Funny what we remember from our past, I can probably quote you the formula for calculating flow from a circular outlet from years of conducting water test for fire systems. Metric I remember 2.54 cm per 1 inch.
